The roles of acquired and innate immunity in human T-cell leukemia virus type 1-mediated diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) causes adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis in small subsets of HTLV-1-carriers.

Ovarian hormone loss modifies the nucleic acid cargo of circulating extracellular vesicles and skeletal muscle metabolism after acute exercise in rats

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Loss of ovarian hormones (i.e., menopause) leads to negative effects on metabolic health. While exercise offers significant benefits, it seems to be insufficient to completely reverse these changes. The mechanisms by which exercise conveys the effects throughout the body are still poorly understood.

The Significance of cGAS‐STING Signaling in Response to Oncogenic Viruses

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The cyclic GMP‐AMP synthase (cGAS)‐stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway, as a key DNA sensor, plays a significant role in the regulation of innate immune responses. This pathway can be activated by sensing abnormal DNA, and is of great significance for resisting the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms and maintaining ...

Epidemic Patterns of Hepatitis Type B Virus (HBV) and Human T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) in Two ATL-Endemic Islands in Kyushu, Japan [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
1991-03To evaluate the relationships between human T lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) and hepatitis virus type B (HBV) infections, we compared both individual and geographical distributions of carriers of HTLV-I and HBV, and antibody positives to HBV ...

Difficulties in the diagnosis of HTLV-2 infection in HIV/AIDS patients from Brazil: comparative performances of serologic and molecular assays, and detection of HTLV-2b subtype Dificuldades no diagnóstico de infecção por HTLV-2 em pacientes com HIV/Aids do Brasil: análise comparativa de ensaios sorológicos e moleculares e detecção de subtipo HTLV-2b

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2007
The current diagnosis of human T-lymphotropic virus type-2 (HTLV-2) infection is based on the search of specific antibodies; nevertheless, several studies conducted in Brazil pointed deficiencies of the commercially available kits in detecting HTLV-2 ...

The suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 regulates glioma stem cell maintenance and immune microenvironment through signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 signaling

open access: yesJournal of Cell Communication and Signaling, Volume 20, Issue 3, September 2026.
We found that SOCS3 deficiency activates STAT3 to enhance glioma stem cell (GSC) stemness and survival. We demonstrated that IL‐6 rescues STAT3 signaling and reverses SOCS3‐mediated tumor suppression. We revealed that SOCS3‐low GSCs exhibit enriched p53 and JAK‐STAT pathway activity. This study provides new mechanistic insights into SOCS3‐STAT3 axis in

Cost-effectiveness of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) antenatal screening for prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2023
BackgroundHuman T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) causes adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATL) and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy-tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) with a poor prognosis.

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 5, Page 1282-1295, 1 September 2026.
While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.
