Wildfire, Suppression, and Federal Spending, 2020–2100
Abstract Wildfire extent is growing in the United States (US), a fact attributable to increasingly favorable weather and climatic conditions and the net result of human interventions. US federal land management agencies act upon the wildfire threat by managing hazardous fuels, discouraging human‐caused ignitions, and suppressing active fires.

Tight Bounds on the Redundancy of Huffman Codes
In this paper, we study the redundancy of Huffman codes. In particular, we consider sources for which the probability of one of the source symbols is known. We prove a conjecture of Ye and Yeung regarding the upper bound on the redundancy of such Huffman

Effects of parachute science on local research capacity 降落伞科学对当地研究能力的影响
Abstract Strengthening research capacity is essential to address the global biodiversity crisis. Yet, parachute science often undermines this goal, and its prevalence, costs, and benefits are unclear. We analyzed 13,502 publications on primate research that we extracted from Scopus (1960–2022) to evaluate the effects of parachute science on local ...

An efficient decoding technique for Huffman codes
We present a new data structure for Huffman coding in which in addition to sending symbols in order of their appearance in the Huffman tree one needs to send codes of all circular leaf nodes (nodes with two adjacent external nodes), the number of which ...

Enhanced Contour‐Deviant Mismatch Negativity and Mnemonic Representations in Older Musicians
Data showed enhanced MMN amplitudes in aging adult musicians compared with nonmusicians. Given that enhancements in MMN responses may be an indicator of preserved sensory processing in aging, music training may insulate age‐related decreases in sensory processing through preserved fidelity of encoding auditory information.

Decoding of Huffman codes with self-synchronization strings
Huffman codes operating on binary trees have been used in many coding and communication systems. While these codes can compress data, they are very sensitive to channel errors.

Given a sequence of positive weights, W=w1≧...≧wn\u3e0, there is a Huffman tree, T↑ ( T-up ) which minimizes the following functions: max{d(wi)}; Σd(wi); Σf(d(wi))wi (here d(wi) represents the distance of a leaf of weight wi to the root and f is a ...

ABSTRACT Flooding is one of the most devastating natural disasters worldwide. It is also expected to become more severe as climate change impacts are realised. Two‐dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic models are used to obtain reliable inundation estimations.
