Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

MicroRNAs Regulate Grain Development in Rice

open access: yesAgronomy
Ensuring food security is a challenge for humans. Rice grain yield and quality must urgently be increased to overcome this challenge. MicroRNA (miRNA) is an important regulatory module in plant development and stress responses.

Convex hulls of spheres and convex hulls of convex polytopes lying on parallel hyperplanes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Given a set $\Sigma$ of spheres in $\mathbb{E}^d$, with $d\ge{}3$ and $d$ odd, having a fixed number of $m$ distinct radii $\rho_1,\rho_2,...,\rho_m$, we show that the worst-case combinatorial complexity of the convex hull $CH_d(\Sigma)$ of $\Sigma$ is $\

Curved Nanographene–Graphite Hybrid Anodes with Sequential Li+ Insertion for Fast‐Charging and Long‐Life Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid anode composed of Cl‐functionalized curved nanographene and graphite enables ultra‐fast charging and long cycle life through an engineered morphology and sequential Li+ insertion. It delivers 100 mAh g−1 at 5 C with 70% capacity retention after 1000 cycles and maintains stable performance over 2000 cycles in pouch cells, providing a practical ...

Universal Electronic‐Structure Relationship Governing Intrinsic Magnetic Properties in Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

Unraveling the Heterogeneity of Cargo Distribution in the Exogenous Association of Proteins With Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We characterized the distribution of cargo proteins associated with extracellular vesicles using various exogenous loading methods. In all cases, single‐particle analysis revealed that the distribution of protein content per EV is heterogeneous, following an exponential decay function.

Outcomes and characteristics of COVID-19 patients treated with continuous positive airway pressure/high-flow nasal oxygen outside the intensive care setting

open access: yesERJ Open Research, 2021
Background Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) have been used to manage hypoxaemic respiratory failure secondary to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia.

Hulls of Surfaces

open access: yesIndiana University Mathematics Journal, 2018
In this paper it is shown that every compact two-dimensional manifold $S$, with or without boundary, can be embedded in $\mathbb C^3$ as a smooth submanifold $ $ in such a way that the polynomially convex hull of $ $, though strictly larger than $ $, contains no analytic disc.

Start, Stop, Rewind, Repeat—Cyclic Exposure of Adipose Stromal Cells‐derived Cartilage Organoids to Chondrogenic and Proliferative Cues to Achieve Scaled‐up and Customizable Bone Formation by Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study exploits the plasticity of ASCs‐derived cartilage organoids which generate a perichondrial layer of MSCs when exposed to cyclic chondrogenic/proliferative cues. Using these organoids as building blocks, we develop (i) Phalange Shaped Tissue Engineered Cartilage (Pa‐TECs), recapitulating endochondral ossification suitable for the treatment of
