Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction

Extended Abstracts of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2014
The objective of this course is to provide newcomers to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with an introduction and overview of the field. Attendees often include practitioners without a formal education in HCI, and those teaching HCI for the first time. This course includes content on theory, cognition, design, evaluation, and user diversity.

Human Computer Interaction

2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology, 2010
This paper intends to provide an overview on the subject of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), also sometimes referred as Man Machine Interaction or MMI. We will be discussing about basic definition and a brief history about the origin of HCI. In the later sections, discussions will be made on existing technologies in HCI and their developments.

Complexity and human-computer interaction

SMC'03 Conference Proceedings. 2003 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. Conference Theme - System Security and Assurance (Cat. No.03CH37483), 2004
A novel approach to measure the complexity of human-computer interaction is presented. A complexity measure is defined, which relies on information-theoretic quantities such as block entropy. An efficient estimation procedure for the complexity measure is introduced.

Human-computer interaction

CHI '97 extended abstracts on Human factors in computing systems looking to the future - CHI '97, 1997
The objective of this special introductory seminar is to provide newcomers to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with an introduction and overview of the field. The material will begin with a brief history of the field, followed by presentation and discussion of how good application development methods pull on the interdisciplinary technologies of HCI ...

Continuity in human computer interaction

CHI '00 extended abstracts on Human factors in computer systems - CHI '00, 2000
Novel interaction techniques, such as gesture, speech, body expression recognition, haptic devices, and video, are characterized by the significance of the temporal aspects of interaction. Those techniques, especially when used in combination, require thinking of interaction over time intervals rather than at discrete points. The concept of Continuity ...

A Historiography of Human–Computer Interaction

IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, 2020
This essay examines the state of the history of human–computer interaction (HCI) from multiple fields of study. In many ways, there is a lack of consensus about what we mean by not only HCI but also computer interfaces. I find that the different definitions and approaches found primarily in history and media studies offer many different avenues for ...

Embodied Human Computer Interaction

KI - Künstliche Intelligenz, 2021
In this paper, we argue that embodiment can play an important role in the design and modeling of systems developed for Human Computer Interaction. To this end, we describe a simulation platform for building Embodied Human Computer Interactions (EHCI). This system, VoxWorld, enables multimodal dialogue systems that communicate through language, gesture,

Cooperativism and Human-Computer Interaction

Extended Abstracts of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019
If social, economic and environmental sustainability are linked, then support for the increasing number of non-profit groups and member-owned organizations offering what Trebor Scholz has called "platform cooperativism" [17] has never been more important.
