Human chorionic gonadotropin in commercial human menopausal gonadotropin preparations

Fertility and Sterility, 1993
Several studies indicated the presence of an hCG-immunoreactive substance in commercial hMG preparations. Because hCG represents LH activity with a relatively very long half-life, differences between hMG preparations with respect to hCG content could imply clinical differences.

Studies of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin

1971
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta that appears in significant quantities in the urine during the first trimester of pregnancy. The mean level of urinary HCG produced during the first trimester is 30,000–50,000 IU in 24 hours, equivalent to a maximum of ...

Human chorionic gonadotropin-secreting osteosarcoma

BMJ Case Reports
Secretion of beta human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) is a rare, recently recognised paraneoplastic syndrome. Herein, we present a case of a woman in her 30s with right femur conventional high-grade osteosarcoma and a positive screening urine pregnancy test. Subsequent workup failed to reveal an intrauterine or extrauterine pregnancy.

Immunochemistry of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin

1984
In states of gestational trophoblastic disease, knowledge of the immunochemistry of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is principally of value in relation to its use as a diagnostic tool and as a marker for the persistence of disease activity during chemotherapy (1, 2).

Human chorionic gonadotropin and malignant mesothelioma

Cancer, 1979
A 56-year-old male presented with ascites and gynecomastia. Laparoscopy demonstrated peritoneal tumors which were biopsied. Conventional histology and electron microscopy revealed the tumor to be a malignant mesothelioma. The ascitic fluid and tumor cell lysate, but not serum, contained hCG by specific assay, and the immunoreactive hCG had ...

Biosynthesis of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin*

Endocrine Reviews, 1980
HUMAN chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone normally secreted by trophoblastic cells of the placenta during pregnancy. Trophoblastic tumors and some nontrophoblastic tumors also secrete hCG and/or its α- or β-subunit. This review emphasizes a number of aspects, some controversial, of hCG biosynthesis and secretion that have received ...

Carboxypeptidase Digestion of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin

Endocrine Research Communications, 1977
Native human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) was resistant to carboxypeptidase digestion even in the presence of urea. Isolated alpha subunit of the hormone (hCG-alpha), though unreactive to enzyme treatment in the absence of denaturant, released up to four amino acid residues from the C-terminus on incubation with a mixture of carboxypeptidases A and B ...

Thyrotropic Action of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin

Thyroid, 1995
Hyperthyroidism or increased thyroid function has been reported in many patients with trophoblastic tumors. In these cases, greatly increased human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels and suppressed TSH levels suggest that hCG has thyrotropic activity.

Antibodies to human chorionic gonadotropin in humans

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1981
Very few observations have been published about the development of antibodies against gonadotropins in the human. Human FSHand hCG-antibodies have been detected in a patient with isolated FSH-deficiency after human menopausal gonadotropin administration [l], or after human menopausal (hMG) and chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) administration in women with ...

Human chorionic gonadotropin in pregnancy diagnostics

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2011
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a 237 aminoacid glycoprotein hormone composed of two dissimilar α and β subunits noncovalently linked by charge interactions, which are both required for the biological activity of the hormone. Due to structural heterogeneity, hCG exists in biological fluids as a mixture of different isoforms, i.e., intact active ...
