Evaluating a Pragmatic Strength Alternative for Frailty Measurement and Assessing Its Predictive Capacity Against Established Frailty Instruments in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Frailty occurs prematurely in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is associated with poor health outcomes. We compared the performance of four frailty instruments, including a pragmatic alternative measure using chair sit‐to‐stand (STS), and evaluated their abilities to predict poor health outcomes.

Abnormalities of Skeletal Muscle, Adipocyte Tissue, and Lipid Metabolism in Heart Failure: Practical Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2020
Chronic diseases, including heart failure (HF), are often accompanied with skeletal muscle abnormalities in both quality and quantity, which are the major cause of impairment of the activities of daily living and quality of life.

Real‐World Longitudinal Data on the Impact of Hydroxychloroquine Blood Level Monitoring on Lupus Outcomes: Results of a Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a cornerstone therapy in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but the weight‐based dosing does not account for clinical factors that can introduce individual variability in drug metabolism and clearance. We leveraged longitudinal data from a prospective SLE cohort to identify clinical factors that predict ...

Acceptability and feasibility of the NPS MedicineWise mobile phone application in supporting medication adherence in patients with chronic heart failure: Protocol for a pilot study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
IntroductionHeart failure (HF) is an increasing global concern. Despite evidence-based pharmacotherapy, morbidity and mortality remain high in HF. Medication non-adherence is a crucial factor in optimising clinical outcomes.

Discordance Between Patient and Physician Global Assessments in Early Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aims to identify factors associated with patient global assessment (PtGA) and physician global assessment (PhGA) and discordance between them in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Methods Data from adults with early SSc (<5 years) from the Collaborative National Quality and Efficacy Registry were included.

Frailty Predicts Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk of frailty and osteoporosis, but the relationship between frailty and incident osteoporotic fractures in RA is underexplored. Methods Data were from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Rheumatoid Arthritis Registry. Frailty was measured using the VA Frailty Index (VAFI).

Asymmetric migration of human keratinocytes under mechanical stretch and cocultured fibroblasts in a wound repair model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Keratinocyte migration during re-epithelization is crucial in wound healing under biochemical and biomechanical microenvironment. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms whereby mechanical tension and cocultured fibroblasts or ...

Optimizing Hydroxychloroquine Blood Levels and Long‐Term Hydroxychloroquine Intake Could Lower Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk and Prevent Polypharmacy in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is the cornerstone of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) management with benefits extending beyond SLE control, including protection against atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although HCQ blood levels reflect recent exposure and long‐term intake reflects medication adherence, the impact of longitudinal ...

The m7G Methyltransferase Mettl1 Drives Cardiac Hypertrophy by Regulating SRSF9‐Mediated Splicing of NFATc4

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Cardiac hypertrophy is a key factor driving heart failure (HF), yet its pathogenesis remains incompletely elucidated. Mettl1‐catalyzed RNA N7‐methylguanosine (m7G) modification has been implicated in ischemic cardiac injury and fibrosis.
