Genital herpes and human immunodeficiency virus: double trouble.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2004
The synergistic relationship between herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be substantial in developing countries that have high prevalences of both viral infections. Genital herpes, most frequently caused by HSV-2, has become the leading cause of genital ulcer disease worldwide.

Chronic ulcerative oesophagitis rich in IgG4‐positive plasma cells – a distinct clinicopathological entity

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
We report a series of 12 patients (mean age 63 years) with chronic oesophageal ulceration showing morphological features of IgG4‐related inflammatory disease. Most patients underwent several rounds of endoscopy until this association was recognized. The majority of patients went into clinical and histological remission following corticosteroid therapy.

Recent advances of emergent extraction technologies to enhance bioactive compounds extraction of microalgae—An overview towards application in cosmetics

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Microalgae extracts show immense potential in cosmetics for their bioactivities; emerging extraction techniques enhance bioactive compound yield from microalgae. Abstract Microalgae have attracted significant interest in numerous sectors, particularly in the cosmetic industries, owing to their rich composition of bioactive compounds. This paper aims to

Auto‐inducible expression of chimeric antigen receptor T cells using the NR4A1 promoter

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, EarlyView.
The NR4A1 promoter is a compact auto‐inducible promoter to drive CAR expression in T cells. Compared with EF1α, or existing synthetic antigen‐inducible promoters, NR4A1 is more compact and ensures that resting CAR T cells express reduced baseline CAR. NR4A1 allows rapid induction upon antigen encounter with reduced T‐cell exhaustion.

Neuroinflammation as a result of non‐neurotropic herpesvirus infection

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, EarlyView.
Atypical memory B cells (ABCs) might stimulate autoreactive T cells to cause neuroinflammation and CNS myeloid cell activation during MS. Abstract The non‐neurotropic Epstein Barr virus (EBV) has been suggested to initiate the prodromal phase of multiple sclerosis (MS), often years before the first clinical symptoms. This review discusses mechanisms by
