Dual roles for the telomeric repeats in chromosomally integrated human herpesvirus-6

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
Approximately 1 percent of healthy individuals carry human herpesvirus-6 within a host chromosome. This is referred to as chromosomally integrated herpesvirus-6 (CIHHV-6). In this study, we investigated the chromosomal integration site in six individuals

Chronic hepatitis in horses with persistent equine hepacivirus infection

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Equine hepacivirus (EqHV) is closely related to hepatitis C virus (HCV), which causes persistent infection and chronic hepatitis in people. Information on persistent EqHV infection and hepatitis is limited. Objectives To report 19 cases of chronic hepatitis and persistent EqHV infection.

Herpesvirus 6 Infection and Febrile Seizures

open access: yesPediatric Neurology Briefs, 1996
The link between human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) and other viruses and febrile convulsions (FC) in 65 children (mean age 18 months) with a first episode of simple FC (Group 1) compared to 24 children (mean age 19 months) with a febrile syndrome without FC ...

Newly identified properties of known pharmaceuticals and myxobacterial small molecules revealed by screening for autophagy modulators

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Autophagy is a cellular degradation process involved in, for example, immune responses to pathogens and neurodegeneration. To identify modulators of autophagy, we developed a microscopy‐based screening assay and identified previously unknown autophagy‐modulating activities in known drugs and natural products from myxobacteria and fungi.

Pityriasis Rosea in a Pregnancy

open access: yesGynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine, 2012
A pregnant woman with Pitriasis rosea whose lesion onset is in first trimester is presented. No interventions were undertaken and her eruption remitted completely 6-7 weeks. We found no evidence of active infection for HHV-6 and HHV-7.

Herpesvirus-6 Infection and First Febrile Seizures

open access: yesPediatric Neurology Briefs, 1995
The association between acute human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) infection and first febrile convulsions was investigated prospectively in 42 children evaluated by virologic and serologic methods at the North Shore University Hospital-Cornell University Medical

Differential regulation of translational stress responses by herpesvirus ubiquitin deconjugases

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Translating viral mRNAs is challenging due to structural features that may slow translation or induce ribosome stalling. The viral ubiquitin deconjugases encoded by human pathogenic herpesviruses regulate the cellular response to ribosomal stress by inhibiting various branches of the Ribosomal Quality Control (RQC) and activating Ribosomal Stress ...

Mycobacterium avium Subsp. paratuberculosis and Human Endogenous Retrovirus in Italian Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a recognised gastrointestinal disorder. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is implicated in IBD pathogenesis. Persistent exposure and active infections by MAP may contribute to the unsilencing of human endogenous retroviruses (HERV ...

The DNA sequence of human herpesvirus-6: structure, coding content, and genome evolution.

open access: yesVirology, 1995
The complete DNA sequence was determined for strain U1102 of human herpesvirus-6, a CD4+ T-lymphotropic virus with disease associations in immunodeficient settings and a possible complicating factor in AIDS.
