Human leukocyte antigen epitope antigenicity and immunogenicity
Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2014Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies are now recognized as being specific for epitopes which can be defined structurally with amino acid differences between HLA alleles. This article addresses two general perspectives of HLA epitopes namely antigenicity, that is their reactivity with antibody and immunogenicity, that is their ability of eliciting ...

Characterization of human leukocyte differentiation antigens
Immunology Today, 1987What would impel 190 different laboratories to work together in the performance of more than 150 000 assays to characterize about 800 antibodies? Participants in the 3rd International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens generally shared the conviction that such cooperative effort has the potential to bring order out of the chaos of ...

Human leukocyte antigen-DP in leukemia
Cancer, 1988Human leukocyte antigen-DP (HLA-DP) typing was performed on patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML, n = 44), acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL, n = 34), or acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL, n = 41). Frequencies of DPw alleles in CML and ANLL patients were not significantly different from 254 controls, except that in ANNL DPw1 was absent ...

Human leukocyte antigens in tuberculosis and leprosy
Trends in Microbiology, 1998Human mycobacterial infections are characterized by a spectrum of clinical and immunological manifestations. Specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) factors are associated with the subtypes of leprosy that develop and the course of tuberculosis after infection.

Human Leukocyte Antigens in Bell's Palsy
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1988Ninety-three patients with Bell's palsy including 12 members of two families with familial Bell's palsy were typed for human leukocyte antigens (HLAs). Significant association between HLAs and Bell's palsy was found. The association of certain HLAs with the palsy may predict the specific clinical course and prognosis.

The human leukocyte antigens and their relationship to infection
The American Journal of Surgery, 1993Human leukocyte antigen DR (HLA-DR) expression on peripheral blood monocytes has been found to correlate highly with infection in many clinical scenarios. This is particularly true for the trauma patient, where changes in HLA-DR expression predate and therefore often predict development of infection.

Becoming a chef in the human leukocyte antigen kitchen
Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2017Fluorescence-based human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibody detection methods, including flow cytometric crossmatch and single antigen bead assays revolutionized HLA antibody identification and assessment of immunological risk in transplant candidates and patients. Nevertheless, these assays are not flawless and their interpretation can be complex.

Surface Antigens of Human Leukocytes
1991Publisher Summary The aim of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive overview of the well-characterized surface molecules of human leukocytes. It is useful to have a brief compilation of this field as a whole that would enable one to quickly find at least the basic information on both the well-known and less familiar molecules and provide a ...

Advances in Human Leukocyte Antigens and Transplantation
1993Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the advances made in human leukocyte antigens and transplantation. The transplantation of skin from one part of the body to another are performed since ancient times, not only in the repair of injuries caused by warfare but also to make good mutilations imposed as punishments for infidelity, thievery, and other ...

Profiling of human leukocyte antigens in Eales‘ disease
International Ophthalmology, 1997Eales' disease is a primary retinal perivasculitis of an undetermined etiology seen predominantly in the Indian subcontinent and rarely in the West. Strong HLA association has been proven in retinal vasculitis of Behcet's disease. HLA association of Eales' disease is unknown and therefore the present study was undertaken to determine the same.
