Comparison of methods for defatted human milk and nutrient composition: An experimental study

open access: yesJournal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Human milk is considered the gold standard for infant nutrition; however, it is often discontinued in chylothorax and severe very long‐chain acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase (VLCAD) deficiency. As an alternative to complete human milk restriction, defatted human milk may be fed, though it may not fully support optimal infant growth and ...

Prolonged refrigerated storage of human milk: effects on nutritive and non-nutritive characteristics.

open access: yes, 2012
Due to the limited knowledge on which common advice on human milk storage is based, current recommendations concerning safe human milk conservation are far from being univocal. In an attempt to clarify some of the uncertainties existing on the storage of

Growth and survival of spore forming Bacillus cereus in human milk exposed to different processing, and storage conditions

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Human milk (HM) is the preferred nutrition for all infants, including preterm and low‐birth‐weight infants, but it may still pose infectious risks even after pasteurization. Data on the behavior of Bacillus cereus in HM are limited. We therefore investigated the growth and survival of B.

Effects of catechins, resveratrol, silymarin components and some of their conjugates on xanthine oxidase‐catalyzed xanthine and 6‐mercaptopurine oxidation

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 105, Issue 5, Page 2765-2776, 30 March 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Over the past two decades, the global incidence of gout has markedly increased, affecting people worldwide. Considering the side effects of xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor drugs (e.g. allopurinol and febuxostat) used in the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout, the potential application of phytochemicals has been widely studied.

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

ZFP36L1 Enhances Microglial Ferroptosis in Ischemic Stroke by Reducing FTO‐Mediated N6‐Methyladenosine Demethylation of ACSL1 mRNA

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microglia play an important role in ischemic stroke (IS). However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying microglial ferroptosis in IS remain incompletely understood. In this study, blood samples were collected from 20 IS patients and 15 healthy volunteers.

DARS2 Promotes Tumorigenesis and Metastasis by Activating PI3K/Akt/GSK‐3β/β‐Catenin Signaling Pathway in Breast Cancer

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aspartyl‐tRNA synthetase 2 (DARS2), the mitochondrial enzyme responsible for aminoacylation of aspartyl‐tRNA, is traditionally known for its effect on protein synthesis. Recently, DARS2 is reported to be implicated in tumorigenesis. However, its specific effect on breast cancer (BC) is poorly understood.
