Universal Predictability of Mobility Patterns in Cities

open access: yes, 2014
Despite the long history of modelling human mobility, we continue to lack a highly accurate approach with low data requirements for predicting mobility patterns in cities.

Gaps in the Implementation of the Non-Prima Facie Refugee Status Determination in Uganda

open access: yesAfrican Human Mobility Review
Refugee status determination is an important initial step in protecting people seeking asylum and in determining who is entitled to international and national protection under refugee law.

Modeling the scaling properties of human mobility

open access: yes, 2010
While the fat tailed jump size and the waiting time distributions characterizing individual human trajectories strongly suggest the relevance of the continuous time random walk (CTRW) models of human mobility, no one seriously believes that human traces ...

Natural Disasters and Human Mobility [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Review of Environmental and Resource Economics, 2016
This paper reviews the effect of natural disasters on human mobility or migration. Although there is an increase of natural disasters and migration recently and more patterns to observe, the relationship remains complex. While some authors find that disasters increase migration, others show that they have only a marginal or no effect or are even ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Dengue epidemics and human mobility [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2011
In this work we explore the effects of human mobility on the dispersion of a vector borne disease. We combine an already presented stochastic model for dengue with a simple representation of the daily motion of humans on a schematic city of 20x20 blocks with 100 inhabitants in each block.

Probabilistic Human Mobility Model in Indoor Environment

open access: yes, 2016
Understanding human mobility is important for the development of intelligent mobile service robots as it can provide prior knowledge and predictions of human distribution for robot-assisted activities.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Mobilization of Human Resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This chapter looks at the role graduates play in the mobilization of human resources. A distinction is drawn between graduates’ mobilization of their own capabilities and their role in mobilizing the capacities of others working in the same organization.
