Merkel cell carcinoma: an updated guide for pathologists

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma for which the differential diagnosis can include other small cell malignancies (especially metastatic small cell carcinoma) or cutaneous carcinoma. Distinct Rb expression pattern in HPV‐associated neuroendocrine carcinomas of the uterine cervix

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Most uterine cervical neuroendocrine carcinoma (UCNEC) cases are HPV‐associated and are characterized by partial loss of Rb, p16 overexpression, and cyclin D1 negativity. A minority of UCNECs exhibit a distinct pattern, characterized by HPV negativity, retained Rb expression, focal p16 expression and cyclin D1 positivity.

Diseases are important determinants of bird survival and may spill‐over into other species including livestock and, in some cases, humans. Avian pox is a globally distributed disease, resulting from infection by viruses in the genus Avipoxvirus (APV).

Viruses, Periodontitis, and Systemic Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the viral involvement in periodontitis and its relevance for systemic diseases. The oral cavity acts as an active viral reservoir and dissemination platform, where virus–microbiome interactions may promote dysbiosis, periodontitis progression, and systemic inflammatory effects, while the ...
