Reconstructing the effective control criterion in extraterritorial human rights breaches : direct attribution of wrongfulness, due diligence, and concurrent responsibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper discusses the rather thorny question of extraterritoriality in human rights protection and the effective control criterion developed by the European Court of Human Rights with a view to delimit territorially the ambit of human right obligations.

Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Stem cell–based therapies for type 1 diabetes: Progress in differentiation, clinical translation, and immune protection

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into functional pancreatic β cells have emerged as a promising strategy for the radical treatment of type 1 diabetes, with preclinical and early clinical evidence demonstrating reversal of hyperglycemia and insulin independence.

Humanized immune system animal models and their recent applications

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In this review, we provide an updated and comprehensive overview of the current state of humanized immune system animal model research. We discuss the variety of techniques used to produce humanized mice with their respective strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate the advantages and limitations of these models, including issues with incomplete immune ...

Advances and perspectives in animal models of human hepatitis A virus

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Following HAV infection, humans, non‐human primates, and Ifnar1−/− mice develop characteristic manifestations of hepatitis A, including fecal viral shedding, elevated serum ALT levels, and inflammatory cell infiltration in the liver. In contrast, HAV‐infected human liver chimeric mice exhibit fecal viral shedding but do not develop clinical features of

How patients' experiences help institutions to improve care in oncological pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes
To improve services, institutions need to listen the patients voice. The patient experience through the health care pathway can help institutions to point out the problems and to learn to design the organization putting the patient at the center of the ...

Nonviral Gold Nanoparticle‐Mediated Delivery of CRISPR‐Cas9 Ribonucleoprotein and Long DNA Transgenes Into Primary Blood Cells

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
CRISPR/Cas9 has revolutionized the field of gene therapy, but delivery remains an outstanding issue. We propose a nonviral gold‐nanoparticle platform for co‐delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 ribonucleoprotein and long 2.1 kilobase dsDNA transgene constructs. This CRISPR‐AuNP is inexpensive to produce and mediate gene editing and DNA delivery in T cells and CD34+

Comparison of Receptor‐Mediated Endocytosis and Its Application to Enhance DNA Transfection by TFAMoplex

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
We developed an assay to distinguish cellular binding from internalization. Compatible with microscopy and high‐throughput screening, the method identifies ligand‐mediated uptake. Applying top candidates to a protein‐based DNA carrier enhanced transfection efficiency, providing a rational strategy to improve non‐viral gene delivery systems.
