Ensuring sustainable water security through sustainable land management: Research evidences for policy

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 10, Issue 4, Page 1170-1186, November 2024.
Abstract Sustainable land management (SLM) practices is a key to reducing rates of land degradation and has proven to ensure water security by increasing soil moisture availability, decreasing surface runoff, decreasing soil erosion, increasing infiltration, and decreasing flood discharge. Land degradation is adversely affecting over 75% of the Earth's

Influence of microclimate and forest management on bat species faced with global change

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Climate refugia, areas where climate is expected to remain relatively stable, can offer a near‐term safe haven for species sensitive to warming temperatures and drought. Understanding the influence of temperature, moisture, and disturbance on sensitive species is critical during this time of rapid climate change.

Effects of increasing soil moisture on Antarctic desert microbial ecosystems

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Overgeneralization and a lack of baseline data for microorganisms in high‐latitude environments have restricted the understanding of the microbial response to climate change, which is needed to establish Antarctic conservation frameworks. To bridge this gap, we examined over 17,000 sequence variants of bacteria and microeukarya across the ...

Sugarcane root system depth in three different countries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
THE SUGARCANE root system depth is crucial as it determines the potential depth of soil available for water and nutrient uptake by the crop. It was reported in an early publication that these roots could grow quite deep (6 m), but otherwise very little ...
