Strain‐Activated Mechanical Metamaterial With Programmable Dual‐Phase Stiffness and Enhanced Energy Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A strain‐activated mechanical metamaterial is developed to achieve programmable dual‐phase stiffness through an intrinsic geometric locking mechanism. Finite element modeling and parametric analysis identify the key design parameters governing activation strain, stiffness transition, and energy absorption.

THE LIMITATIONS OF THE MODES OF UNCOUPLING BRAKING ON HUMPS

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2009
The operating limitations of braking modes for cuts on humps are explored; a procedure of construction of region of permissible speeds for exit of cuts from the retarding positions is developed.

Research on the Comparison of the Flow Evolution Mechanisms of a Water-Jet Pump Between Valley and Peak Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The pump hump significantly influences the vibration and operational stability of pumps. During the development of the mixed-flow waterjet pump, our team found that the pump performance curve had a hump phenomenon and the platform had vibration, so it ...

Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

A life-threatening complication due to pulmonary haemorrhage following hump-nosed viper bite

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2020
Background Hump-nosed viper bite, the commonest venomous snake bite in Sri Lanka, is associated with significant morbidity. Specific anti-venom is not available for hump-nosed viper envenomation which is usually managed with supportive treatment ...

Humps and Superhumps [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1983
It is now well established, following the classic work of Smak, Warner and Nather, that discs in dwarf novae possess an anisotropic radiation pattern responsible for the hump, or shoulder, that occurs prior to eclipse in the quiescent state, and, in systems with suitable inclination such as TT Gem, responsible also for the primary eclipse itself.

Confinement‐Induced Nonlocality and Optical Nonlinearity of Transdimensional Titanium Nitride Films in the Epsilon‐Near‐Zero Region

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The epsilon‐near‐zero (ENZ) effect in metals emerges only in nanometer‐scale films with exceptional optical quality. Titanium nitride (TiN) films grown by molecular beam epitaxy retain high crystallinity down to 2 nm and exhibit dramatically enhanced nonlinear optical responses near the ENZ region.

ABOUT THE APPROACH TO THE DETERMINATION OF CERTAIN KINEMATIC PARAMETERS OF THE CAR’S MOVEMENT ON THE HUMP BRAKING POSITIONS OF MARSHALLING YARDS

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Studies, 2018
In the design of marshalling hump, the choice of optimal parameters of great importance to have accurate values of the kinematic parameters of the movement of the cars, uncoupling at all parts.
