The first case of golden jackal (Сanis aureus Linnaeus, 1758) appearance in Penza region

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений. Поволжский регион: Естественные науки, 2022
Background. In recent decades, the golden jackal (Canis aureus) has spread northward, including in the Volga region. Finding a species belonging to a desert faunal complex far from the main range is important for the study of biological diversity and ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Using local ecological knowledge as evidence to guide management: A community‐led harvest calculator for muskoxen in Greenland

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, 2020
Indigenous people manage or have tenure rights on over a quarter of the world's land surface. While there is growing interest in “evidence‐based” natural resource management, there are few documented experiences with “evidence‐based” practice in ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Chimpanzee hunting behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The pursuit, capture and consumption of small-and medium-sized vertebrates, appears to be typical of all chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) populations, although large variation exists. Red colobus monkeys (Piliocolobus sp.) appear to be the preferred prey but
