The adrenocortical homolog of the beluga sturgeon Huso huso (Chondrostei)

open access: yesJournal of Ichthyology, 2014
In the beluga sturgeon Huso huso we studied the cell structure and the presence of glycogen in the corticosteroidogenic tissue. In chondrosteans this tissue is the main component of the yellow bodies spread throughout the length of the kidney region and constitutes the adrenocortical homolog of the adrenal gland of higher vertebrates. This study showed

Determination of the best stocking density for rearing Huso huso [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Effects of stocking density on growth, food conversion ratio, specific growth rate, percentage of body weight increase in Huso huso were studied in two phases. Juveniles below one year old with an average weight of 92.09±1.72 grams and stocking densities of 1.6, 2.8 and 4 kg/m^2 in 3 replicates for 100 days were reared as the phase one group.

First feeding strategy for hatchery produced Beluga sturgeon, Huso huso larvae

open access: yes, 2012
Co-feeding of fish larvae with live food and formulated diet has been at the focus of fish nutritionists since last decade. In this study we tried to refine the feeding practices of great beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) larvae using different combinations of newly hatched Artemia urmiana nauplii and trout starter diet.

Effectiveness of glucose–methanol extender for cryopreservation of Huso huso spermatozoa

Animal Reproduction Science, 2015
The present approach was designed to evaluate the methanol-glucose extender effects on sperm cryopreservation in beluga sturgeon, Huso huso. Sperm quality was examined by measuring post-thaw sperm motility and fertilizing rate at hatching stage. We first tested the effect of glucose concentration (0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.30M) in a methanol extender ...

The successful production of “sterbel” hybrids using beluga (Huso huso) cryopreserved sperm

Animal Reproduction Science, 2023
This is the first report of the production of viable "sterbel" hybrids using cryopreserved beluga (Huso huso) sperm. In the present study, beluga cryopreserved sperm were used for fertilization and activation of eggs collected from four females of sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus).

Histomorphogenesis on hindbrain in Huso huso (Beluga sturgeon) larvae

Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2019
This study has been done on evolution and morphology of hindbrain structure, during larvae life from 1 to 54 dph on Huso huso. It was concentrated on significant cerebellum and medulla oblongata. The cerebellum occupied the rostral part of dorsal wall of fourth ventricle. The fourth ventricle was visible on 1 day old and by aging was majorly.

The metabolic effects of feeding and fasting in beluga Huso huso

Marine Environmental Research, 2012
A six week-study was conducted to determine the effect of starvation and feeding on growth, hematology and biochemical variables in sub-yearling beluga. Fish were placed on six feeding strategies: i) starved condition for 6 weeks, ii) a 2-week starvation, 2-week feeding and 2-week starvation, iii) a 2-week feeding, 2-week starvation and 2-week feeding,

On the adrenergic system of ganoid fish: the beluga,Huso huso(Chondrostei)

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1981
The adrenergic system of the beluga,Huso huso, was studied by glyoxylic acid fluorescence histochemistry, analyses of catecholamine content in various organs and studies of the effects of acetylcholine and adrenaline on isolated strip preparations from blood vessels, spleen, atrium and ventricle.
