HVDC-Transmission Line Model for Transient Simulation Purposes

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992
Abstract A lumped bipolair HVDC-transmission line model, based on least squares fitting of orthogonal polynomials, which are space dependent, and have time dependent coefficients, is presented and examined in this paper. The model enables the line voltage and current to be approximately determined for arbitrary points along the line and at arbitrary ...

Transient Overvoltages in Onshore HVDC Cable Joints: Surge Reflections and the Influence of Grounding Configurations

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 83-99, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines transient overvoltage phenomena in 525 kV high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) onshore cable systems, with particular emphasis on the influence of grounding configurations in two joint types: straight‐through and screen‐separated.

Distributed Model Predictive Control of Microgrids: A Review on Recent Developments

open access: yesIET Control Theory &Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper presents a comprehensive review of distributed model predictive control (DMPC) for microgrids, synthesizing recent developments from the past decade. The review categorizes DMPC implementations by communication architectures, control challenges, and algorithmic strategies, while evaluating their performance in terms of computational burden ...

Proposing a Rule for VSC-HVDC Optimal Placement to Improve Transient Stability of Power System [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Research and Technology in Electrical Industry
Transient stability indicates the system's ability to dampen the rotor oscillations of synchronous generators after severe faults. The transient instability causes considerable damage to the generator and reduces the production capacity in the network ...

Single Pole-to-Ground Fault Analysis of MMC-HVDC Transmission Lines Based on Capacitive Fuzzy Identification Algorithm

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The probability of a single pole-to-ground fault in high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines is relatively high. For the modular multilevel converter HVDC (MMC-HVDC) systems, when a single pole-to-ground fault occurs, the fault current is ...

A Hybrid Ultra‐High Voltage DC Transformer With Digital Twin‐Driven Operation and Control

open access: yesDigital Twins and Applications, Volume 3, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study introduces a digital twin‐driven hybrid ultra‐high‐voltage DC transformer (UHVDCT) that combines high‐capacity LCCs with low‐capacity MMCs at the UHV side. This innovative topology reduces MMC requirements by 32.9% while ensuring stable power flow and dynamic reactive balance through real‐time virtual‐physical synchronization.

A Novel Protection Scheme for MMC-HVdc Transmission Lines Based on Cross-Entropy of Charge

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
MMC-HVdc transmission system has become the mainstream of power construction and plays an increasingly important role in the power system. However, the dc line fault results in shutting down of the converters, which can greatly endanger the security of ...

Attractive Space Evaluation Method for HVDC Transmission Lines

open access: yesEnergies
High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines are increasing in number and overall length. This means their lightning protection must be of higher importance as well. Probability-modulated attractive space (PMAS) theory is a proven geometry-based method for lightning protection calculations.

Research on Voltage Regulation Methods for Flexible On‐Load Tap‐Changing Transformers

open access: yesElectrical Materials and Applications, Volume 3, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
The control system determines whether the output voltage magnitude of the voltage source converter (VSC) is high, low or constant and generates the corresponding pulse signals. Each pulse is generated at the valve‐triggering instant, with its width corresponding to the commutation angle.

Adaptability Analysis and Countermeasures for Distance Protection of AC Transmission Lines Connected LCC-HVDC Inverter Station

open access: yesZhongguo dianli
The AC transmission line fault near the LCC-HVDC inverter station might lead to commutation failure. And fault voltage and current waveforms would be distorted. It will have an adverse effect on the performance of fundamental power frequency phasor based
