Test Line Experience with HVDC Overhead Transmission

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1970
Tests were conducted on a high-voltage overhead direct-current test line. Values of radio interference and corona loss were established for certain conductor configurations and pole spacings. Relations between radio interference and corona loss and some weather variables were evaluated.

Adaptive Reclosing Method for Flexible HVDC Transmission Lines

2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020
With the development of HVDC transmission, half-bridge modular multilevel converter with hybrid HVDC circuit breakers becomes one of the mainstream configuration schemes in HVDC flexible system. However, the existing reclosing strategies have some defects, such as lack of selectivity and adoption of long time delay, due to the inability to determine ...

New Computational Method for Study of Ionic Current Environment of HVDC Transmission Lines

2020 IEEE International Conference on Advances and Developments in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ICADEE), 2020
The divergence of corona generated ionic currents under the HVDC transmission lines to any living organism is vulnerable. The flow of these corona-generated ionic currents under the transmission lines at extended voltage levels such as HV to EHV/UHV ...

The simulation study on line protection of HVDC transmission system

2017 2nd International Conference on Power and Renewable Energy (ICPRE), 2017
This paper introduces the causes of line fault and expounds traveling wave protection and the criterion of protection action. Then establishes the simulation model of HVDC transmission system based on PSCAD/EMTDC, by which the line fault under different transition resistance and fault distance are simulated.

High Effective Calculation and 3-D Modeling of Ion Flow Field Considering the Crossing of HVDC Transmission Lines

IEEE transactions on magnetics, 2020
The 3-D calculation method of the ion flow field is required for the crossing issue of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission lines. Appropriate computational regions and boundary conditions are critical to the calculation.

A Novel Fault Location Method for HVDC Transmission Lines

2019 IEEE PES GTD Grand International Conference and Exposition Asia (GTD Asia), 2019
Considering the frequency-dependent characteristics of line parameters, a novel fault location method for high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines is proposed in this paper. It is of great significance to accurately establish transmission line model.

Asymmetrical design of VSC-based HVDC transmission lines

2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012
The advent of VSC-based overhead dc transmission allows reversal of power direction by reversing current flow rather than voltage polarity. This, in turn, allows the poles of HVdc line to be designed independently, taking advantage of polarity-based differences in insulation strength, radio and audible noise generation, and ground-level electric field ...

Degree of corona saturation for HVDC transmission lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990
The DC electric field and ion density are two of the electrical quantities of interest that characterize the electrical environment of HVDC (high-voltage direct-current) transmission lines. The author presents an overview of the electric field and ion environment of HVDC transmission lines and introduces the concept of degree of corona saturation.

Travelling wave fault location principle for hybrid multi-terminal LCC-MMC-HVDC transmission lines based on C-EVT

, 2020
This paper considers the fault location problem of hybrid multi-terminal high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission systems based on the line-commutated converter (LCC) and modular multi-level converter (MMC). Two issues are addressed in this study:
