Telephone interference criteria for HVDC transmission lines
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989The telephone interference caused by a transmission line is primarily characterized by the equivalent line disturbance current defined as: le=?n (Cn · In)2 where Cn = C-message weighting factor for the n:th harmonic ln = residual line current of n:th harmonic For many HVdc lines, particularly in North America, this current has been required to be < 270

Lightning model for HVDC transmission lines
10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010In the paper, the complete lightning model for HVDC transmission lines is presented, and the model is divided into five parts: lightning discharging model, insulator string flashover model, arrester model, tower model and conductor/ground wires model. The proposed lightning model was successfully tested in the PSCAD/EMTDC software.

Transient Simulations for HVDC Transmission Lines
International Review on Modelling and Simulations (IREMOS), 2015A comprehensive methodology for transient studies of HVDC lines for interconnected AC power systems is proposed as a useful tool for its design and operation. This methodology is based on frequency dependent modelling of HVDC transmission lines and a full modelling of their associated equipment in order to do transient simulations.

Measurement and Statistical Analysis of Ozone from HVDC and HVAC Transmission Lines
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1985Corona-generated ozone is one of the parameters considered in evaluating the environmental impact of high voltage ac and dc transmission lines. Measurements of ozone levels near an operating 735-kV ac line and near a test line with ±900-kV and ±450-kV dc line configurations are reported in this paper.

An Application of HVDC to the de-icing of Transmission Lines
2005/2006 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2006Ice accumulation on transmission lines in extreme climatic events can result in severe damage to the lines and towers, with the possibility of being unable to restore the service quickly enough to preserve electricity supplies to customers. To prevent such a situation, Hydro-Quebec TransEnergie are investing in a dedicated "De-icer" installation at its

Fault detection and localization for HVDC transmission lines
2018 Simposio Brasileiro de Sistemas Eletricos (SBSE), 2018This paper evaluates a new method for faults detections in transmission lines in HVDC systems. The proposed method uses voltage and current synchronized data. The HVDC systems are simulated using MATLAB® software. The method for detection of faults in transmission line uses a self-adaptive threshold and presents a redundancy, which allows the detection

Neutral Line Protection System for HVDC Transmission
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1986This paper described the principle of fault detection and its simulator study, principal circuitry, field test results and field performance records on the neutral line protection system for an HVDC transmission system. In the protection system, 125 Hz ac current injected to the neutral line is utilized as a pilot current to detect the neutral line ...

A Fault Location Method for HVDC Transmission Lines
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014A fault location method for HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission lines is proposed in this paper, using voltages and currents measured at two terminals of dc lines in time domain. Fault traveling waves propagate from the fault point to both terminals along the faulted line.

A Transient Protection Scheme for HVDC Transmission Line
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012The relation between the parameters of dc transmission line and the variation of transient energy has been analyzed under various fault conditions in this paper. According to that, a new transient energy protective scheme is proposed. It is developed based on the distributed parameter line model in which the transient energy distribution over the line ...
