Intelligent Diagnosis Method for Mechanical Faults of High-Voltage Shunt Reactors Based on Vibration Measurements

open access: yesMachines, 2022
Aiming at the difficulty of accurately identifying latent mechanical faults inside high-voltage shunt reactors (HVSRs), this paper proposes a new method for HVSR state feature extraction and intelligent diagnosis.

Inferring Cenozoic Cover Thickness and Bedrock Sedimentary Material in 3D From Geophysical Data Using Machine Learning Algorithms: A Case Study in the Lockington Region, Victoria, Australia

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract This study presents a supervised machine learning approach to constructing a 3D geological model for the Lockington area in Victoria, Australia, by integrating borehole observations, geophysical surveys (magnetic, gravity, and radiometric), and elevation data.

Utilization of Spatially Distributed mHVSR to Assess the Effectiveness of Ground Response Analysis

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 1, February 2026.
One‐dimensional ground response analyses (GRAs) can introduce model error to site response estimates when wave propagation is not dominated by vertically propagating shear waves. We investigate whether the variability of spatially distributed microtremor‐based horizontal‐to‐vertical spectral ratios (mHVSR) is related to GRA effectiveness using data ...

Multi‐scale geophysical mapping of the brine and bedrock surfaces along the Dolores River, Paradox Valley, Colorado, December 2023

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 36-49, February 2026.
Abstract Total dissolved solids derived from salt dome–sourced brine in the underlying alluvial aquifer substantially increase with distance in the reach of the Dolores River that passes through Paradox Valley in southwestern Colorado. The area has been the site of salinity control operations since the 1990s to reduce salt loading to the downstream ...

Seismic Hazard and Microzonation Study of Tanjung Region, North Lombok (Indonesia) using Microtremor Measurement

open access: yesJurnal Pendidikan Fisika Indonesia, 2018
Tanjung Region is one of the severely damaged areas by the Lombok earthquake on June 22, 2013. Therefore, to anticipate the similar events, it is necessary to perform microzonation in this region. Objective of this study is to map the distribution of the

Validating alternative methods to account for shallow site effects in hybrid broadband ground‐motion simulation of small‐magnitude earthquakes in New Zealand

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 41, Issue 5, Page 3914-3948, December 2025.
Proper incorporation of shallow site effects in hybrid broadband ground‐motion simulation is essential to improving predictions at soil sites. This paper validates and compares four methods to account for these effects in the predominantly linear regime, using 1446 ground motions from 213 small‐magnitude earthquakes (3.5≤MW≤5.0) recorded at 38 sites in

Estimating site amplification variability in Yangon, Myanmar, from a dense nodal seismic array

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 3168-3189, November 2025.
We explore a novel acquisition geometry that can be used to estimate the linear component of site amplification using a dense nodal seismic network installed in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city. The city is surrounded by several seismically active faults, including the Sagaing Fault, which is capable of generating Mw > 7.0 earthquakes.

Preliminary seismic microzonation in a mountainmunicipality of Tuscany (Italy)

open access: yesOpen Geosciences, 2015
In this paperwe describe a microzonation surveycarried out at a mountain Municipality (Piteglio, NorthernApennines). We complemented the available data by conducting106 microtremor measurements for Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) analysis ...

Selection of seismic noise recording by K-means

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
The automatic selection of elementary analysis windows in continuous seismic noise recordings, aiming to obtain the most precise average horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR, also named H/V) curve, holds great importance in conducting HVSR ...

Site characterization of Sikkim Himalaya using HVSR

open access: yesSeismica
The northeastern state of Sikkim lying in central segment of the Himalayan orogen is a seismically active region which was plagued by the recent 2011 Mw6.9 earthquake. Analysis of local earthquakes recorded at the recently deployed seismic network of 27 broadband seismic stations revealed seismogenic zone extending down to lower crustal depths with a ...
