Redescription of two Iranian cyclopoids: Thermocyclops tinctus Lindberg, 1936 and Th. hyalinus persicus Lindberg, 1936 (Copepoda, Cyclopoidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Two Thermocyclops species, Th. tinctus LINDBERG, 1936 and Th. hyalinus persicus LINOBERG, 1936, both described from Iran, are redescribed in detail after reexamination of the type-series. Th.

Phylogenomics of African Melastomateae (Melastomataceae): Revisiting generic relationships, placement of three enigmatic taxa and description of two new genera

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Evolutionary relationships within the Melastomateae, a diverse tribe within the Melastomataceae, are not yet completely resolved, and some putatively paleoendemic taxa that might alter relationships are still unsampled. This study employs a phylogenomic approach, utilizing target capture data, to revisit generic relationships and shed light on

Taxonomy and dated molecular phylogeny of Allium oreophilum sensu lato (A. subg. Porphyroprason) uncover a surprising number of cryptic taxa

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Allium oreophilum, hitherto the representative of the monotypic A. subg. Porphyroprason from the second evolutionary lineage of Allium, is studied in detail. Over about 150 years, A. oreophilum was regarded as a somewhat polymorphous species with two synonyms, all described in the 19th century.

A scanning particle image velocimetry system for spatial mapping of steady flow and O2 concentration fields around aquatic organisms

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The impact of flow on aquatic organisms (and vice versa) is crucial for many aspects of their physiology and ecology, as this interaction shapes the hydrodynamic boundary layer and thereby the exchange of solutes between the organism and its surrounding environment.

Immunosenescence Profile Is Associated With Increased Susceptibility to Severe COVID‐19

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
(A) A previous immunosenescence profile in individuals infected with SARS‐CoV2 creates a permissive environment for progression to severe COVID‐19: higher inflammaging, accumulation of exhausted/senescent T cells, an oligoclonal B‐cell repertoire, and accelerated epigenetic age.
