A Generalized Method for Integrating Rule-based Knowledge into Inductive Methods Through Virtual Sample Creation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Hybrid learning methods use theoretical knowledge of a domain and a set of classified examples to develop a method for classification. Methods that use domain knowledge have been shown to perform better than inductive learners.

Selective Separation of the Rare Earth Elements Dysprosium and Neodymium via Tailoring Nanocellulose Chemical Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

CURE-SMOTE algorithm and hybrid algorithm for feature selection and parameter optimization based on random forests

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2017
The random forests algorithm is a type of classifier with prominent universality, a wide application range, and robustness for avoiding overfitting. But there are still some drawbacks to random forests.

Pixelation‐Free, Monolithic Iontronic Pressure Sensors Enabling Large‐Area Simultaneous Pressure and Position Recognition via Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pixelation‐free, monolithic iontronic pressure sensor enables simultaneous pressure and position sensing over large areas. AC‐driven ion release generates spatially varying impedance pathways depending on the pressure. Machine learning algorithms effectively decouple overlapping pressure–position signals from the multichannel outputs, achieving high ...

Programmable In‐Situ Interactions Between Resins and Photopolymerized Structures for Seamlessly Integrated Optical Manufacturing of Microlenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a dynamic interaction between liquid resins and photopolymerized structures enabled by an in situ light‐writing setup. By controlling a three‐phase interface through localized photopolymerization, which provides physical confinement for the remaining uncured resin regions, the approach establishes a programmable pathway that ...

Creative or Not? Birds and Ants Draw with Muscle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this work, a novel approach of merging two swarm intelligence algorithms is considered – one mimicking the behaviour of ants foraging (Stochastic Diffusion Search [5]) and the other algorithm simulating the behaviour of birds flocking (Particle Swarm ...

Prenucleation Species Dictate Foreign Ion Incorporation in the Biomineral Precursor Amorphous Calcium Carbonate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ACC forms via aggregating prenucleation clusters that gatekeep its chemical composition. Ion identity steers the path: Ba and Sr substitute Ca in clusters, thereby inhibiting nucleation, with a dose‐dependent switch of Sr to induction. Mg partitions into Mg‐rich and Mg‐poor clusters; the latter form ACC, expelling Mg.

Short-term power generation scheduling rules for cascade hydropower stations based on hybrid algorithm

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2012
Power generation dispatching is a large complex system problem with multi-dimensional and nonlinear characteristics. A mathematical model was established based on the principle of reservoir operation. A large quantity of optimal scheduling processes were

G/SPLINES: A hybrid of Friedman's Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) algorithm with Holland's genetic algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes
G/SPLINES are a hybrid of Friedman's Multivariable Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) algorithm with Holland's Genetic Algorithm. In this hybrid, the incremental search is replaced by a genetic search.
