Problems and issues in laser-arc hybrid welding

International Materials Reviews, 2009
Abstract Hybrid welding, using the combination of a laser and an electrical arc, is designed to overcome problems commonly encountered during either laser or arc welding such as cracking, brittle phase formation and porosity. When placed in close contact with each other, the two heat sources interact in such a way as to produce a single high intensity ...

Synergetic effects of hybrid laser/arc welding

Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 2005
The present study reports the results of a study examining the synergetic effects of hybrid laser/arc welding. Experiments were carried out with a 500 W Nd:YAG laser in combination with standard gas tungsten arc welding equipment and attention was focused on two aspects: the heat transfer efficiency and the melting efficiency.

Coupling mechanism of laser and arcs of laser-twin-arc hybrid welding and its effect on welding process

Optics and Laser Technology, 2013
Abstract Laser-twin-arc hybrid welding, which combines the techniques of laser welding and twin-arc welding, is an emerging welding technology. In this study, synchronous information including spectral signal, high-speed photography and electrical signal is used to explore the physical interaction between the arcs and the laser of alternate burning ...
