A method combining iterations of the Laguerre and modified Laguerre root-finding methods was developed to correct a problem of the modified Laguerre method with “paired approximations”. Experimental results indicate that this hybrid Laguerre method successfully separates approximation pairs which inhibit convergence in the modified Laguerre method.

A Hybrid Method for Probabilistic Satisfiability
2011Determining satisfiability of sets of formula formulated in a Nilsson style probabilistic logic (PSAT) by reduction to a system of linear (in)equations has been extensively studied, esp. in the propositional setting. The basic technique for coping with the potentially exponentially large (in terms of the formulae) linear system is column generation ...

Hybrid Difference Methods for PDEs
Journal of Scientific Computing, 2014The author introduces a numerical method for partial differential equations (PDEs) which consists of two steps: the finite difference approximation of PDEs within cells and the interface finite difference on edges of cells. As the author explains in the paper, the method is suitable to non-uniform grids, retaining the optimal order of convergence. Some

A Hybrid Method for k-Anonymization
2008 IEEE Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference, 2008K-anonymity is a model to protect public released microdata from individual identification. It requires that each record is identical to at least k-1 other records in the anonymized dataset with respect to a set of privacy-related attributes. Although it is easy to anonymize the original dataset to satisfy the requirement of k-anonymity, it is ...

A hybrid page segmentation method
Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR '93), 2002A method of page segmentation using field separators and white streams is described and applied to the layout analysis of various types of printed pages which may have horizontal and vertical textlines. In complex page layouts, text columns which are printed closely together are often separated by thin black lines (field separators) or long white ...

Hybrid tree reconstruction methods
ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics, 1999A major computational problem in biology is the reconstruction of evolutionary trees for species sets, and accuracy is measured by comparing the topologies of the reconstructed tree and the model tree. One of the major debates in the field is whether large evolutionary trees can be even approximately accurately reconstructed from biomolecular sequences

RNA colony hybridization method
Gene, 1986A method for rapid screening of specific RNA sequences in recombinant colonies by hybridization in situ is presented. The method includes two consecutive steps of lytic treatment of the nitrocellulose-filter-supported colonies (10% sodium dodecyl sulfate and 3 X SSC at 65 degrees C) and hybridization with 32P-labelled specific oligodeoxynucleotides.

The emerging field of multiple species research has yet to be firmly or perfectly defined, but in seeking to test out some ideas, the foregoing three chapters explored the potential of several creative tools for approaching the difficult problem of accessing and understanding the interactions between humans and other species, looking at techniques that

Hybrid Methods for Hybrid Play: A Research Toolkit
2019In this chapter we outline a research toolkit for the study of Internet-connected toys and their processual and situated affordances. We account for the complex and varied ways in which connected toys, children, adults and media infrastructures interrelate and interact to form systems of meaning and ensembles of technologies and agency, which ...

A new method of in situ hybridization
Chromosoma, 1975A new method for gene mapping at the chromosome level using in situ hybridization and scanning electron microscopy is described and has been applied to mapping the rRNA genes of Drosophila melanogaster. Biotin is covalently attached to Drosophila rRNA via a cytochrome c bridge at a ratio of one cytochrome-biotin per 130 nucleotides by a chemical ...
