Nammo hybrid rocket propulsion TRL improvement program
48th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2012In 2010, Nammo initiated an ESA-funded hybrid propulsion Technology Readiness Level (TRL) improvement program based on ideas proposed in a study performed for Ariane 5 ME a year before. In a program lasting less than one year, Nammo executed 29 hybrid rocket firing tests using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidizer.

Proceedings. Frontiers in Education. 36th Annual Conference, 2006
This paper describes a unique design and laboratory experience that was incorporated into an introductory rocket propulsion course. Specifically, each student team designed, built and tested a 7 lbf thrust hybrid rocket motor. The thrust chambers were fabricated from aluminum and the nozzles were fabricated from graphite.

Ballistic Characterization of ALH3-Based Propellants for Solid and Hybrid Rocket Propulsion
45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2009Experimental analyses of laboratory-type composite solid rocket propellants and hybrid solid fuels based on -AlH3 (alane) are presented. Chemical and physical properties of this peculiar energetic ingredient are discussed, ballistic properties experimentally evaluated under a variety of configurations, and flame structures compared with the ...

Ballistic and rheological characterization of paraffin-based fuels for hybrid rocket propulsion
47th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2011Solid fuels for hybrid rockets were characterized in the framework of a research project aimed to develop a new generation of solid fuels, combining at the same time good ballistic and mechanical properties. A rheological, mechanical and ballistic characterization of paraffin-based hybrid rocket solid fuels was performed, considering pure wax-based ...

Innovative Metallized Formulations for Solid or Hybrid Rocket Propulsion
2012Several metallized solid rocket propellants, of the broad family AP/Metal/HTPB in the ratio 68/18/14, were experimentally analyzed at the Space Propulsion Laboratory of Politecnico di Milano. In general, they feature the same nominal composition, but different metals (micrometric and nanometric Al, B, Mg, and a variety of dual metals) are implemented ...
