Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

A Hybrid Architectural Style for Complex Healthcare Scenarios [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops, 2009
In classic software engineering, a successful software architecture arises from functional and non-functional requirements analysis, modeling, design elaboration and implementation phases, incorporating key trade-offs and constraints. This paper proposes an alternative approach, informed by deep insights gained from understanding successfully deployed ...

Hybrid Engagement: Discourses and Scenarios of Entrepreneurial Journalism

open access: yesMedia and Communication, 2018
Although the challenge posed by social media and the participatory turn concerns culture and values at the very heart of journalism, journalists have been reluctant to adopt participatory values and practices. To encourage audience participation and to offer journalism that is both trustworthy and engaging, journalists of the future may embrace a ...

Hybrid control of manipulators in human-robot coexistence scenarios [PDF]

open access: yes2018 Annual American Control Conference (ACC), 2018
This paper addresses safe motion planning for a manipulator, in environments shared with human operators. We formulate the problem as an optimal control problem for a hybrid system integrating three different operation modes: nominal, soft safety, and hard safety. The manipulator is assigned a nominal trajectory to reach a target position.

HYBRID SCENARIO BASED PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF DSDV AND DSR [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Science and Information Technology, 2010
The area of mobile ad hoc networking has received considerable attention of the research community in recent years. These networks have gained immense popularity primarily due to their infrastructure-less mode of operation which makes them a suitable candidate for deployment in emergency scenarios like relief operation, battlefield etc., where either ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Efficient Scenario Verification for Hybrid Automata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Hybrid Automata (HAs) are a clean modeling framework for systems with discrete and continuous dynamics. Many systems are structured into components, and can be modeled as networks of communicating HAs. Message Sequence Charts (MSCs) are a consolidated language to describe desired behaviors of a network of interacting components and have been extended ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and
