Epistasis and hybrid sterility inSaccharomyces [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 2002
Hybrid sterility is thought to be due to deleterious epistatic interactions between genes from different species. Here we demonstrate that dominant genic incompatibility does not contribute to sterility in hybrids between Saccharomyces cerevisiae and five closely related species.

A genetic basis for a postmeiotic X versus Y chromosome intragenomic conflict in the mouse. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Intragenomic conflicts arise when a genetic element favours its own transmission to the detriment of others. Conflicts over sex chromosome transmission are expected to have influenced genome structure, gene regulation, and speciation.

Pollen- and Seed-Sterility in Hybrids [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 1923
Sterility of hybrids in various forms and degrees is a phenomenon so frequently presented to the plant breeder and geneticist that in some form and in some degree it is rather to be expected. The first problem in its study demands a critical examination to determine in the life history the place of those conditions that bring about the sterility in ...

Potential Association of Reactive Oxygen Species With Male Sterility in Peach

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Male sterility is an important agronomic trait for hybrid vigor utilization and hybrid seed production, but its underlying mechanisms remain to be uncovered.

Table_1_Understanding the Nature of Hybrid Sterility and Divergence of Asian Cultivated Rice.DOCX

open access: yes, 2022
Intraspecific hybrid sterility is a common form of postzygotic reproductive isolation in Asian cultivated rice, which is also the major obstacle to utilize the strong heterosis in the rice breeding program.

High-resolution genome-wide dissection of the two rules of speciation in Drosophila. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2007
Postzygotic reproductive isolation is characterized by two striking empirical patterns. The first is Haldane's rule--the preferential inviability or sterility of species hybrids of the heterogametic (XY) sex.

Prdm9 intersubspecific interactions in hybrid male sterility of house mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The classical definition posits hybrid sterility as a phenomenon when two parental taxa each of which is fertile produce a hybrid that is sterile.

Gene, protein and network of male sterility in rice

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Rice is one of the most important model crop plants whose heterosis has been well exploited in commercial hybrid seed production via a variety of types of male sterile lines. Hybrid rice cultivation area is steadily expanding around the world, especially

The genetic basis of hybrid male sterility in sympatric Primulina species

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2020
Background Sympatric sister species provide an opportunity to investigate the genetic mechanisms and evolutionary forces that maintain species boundaries.

A hybrid sterile locus leads to the linkage drag of interspecific hybrid progenies

open access: yesPlant Diversity, 2020
Interspecific hybridization plays an important role in rice breeding by broadening access to desirable traits such as disease resistance and improving yields.
