Hybrid Urban Navigation for Smart Cities

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes a design for a hybrid, city-wide urban navigation system for moving agents demanding dedicated assistance. The hybrid system combines GPS and vehicle-to-vehicle communication from an ad-hoc network of parked cars, and RFID from fixed ...

Equivalence of switching linear systems by bisimulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A general notion of hybrid bisimulation is proposed for the class of switching linear systems. Connections between the notions of bisimulation-based equivalence, state-space equivalence, algebraic and input–output equivalence are investigated.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Optimization of Strain and Doping in Ge/GeSi Nanoscale Multilayers for GOI Short-Wave Infrared Imaging Applications

open access: yesNanomaterials
In this study, in situ P-doping of Ge-based layers has been studied and compared with implanted layer profiles acting as absorbent top layer in PIN photodetectors.

Hybridity in MT: experiments on the Europarl corpus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
(Way & Gough, 2005) demonstrate that their Marker-based EBMT system is capable of outperforming a word-based SMT system trained on reasonably large data sets.

Scalable Ion Trap Quantum Computing without Moving Ions

open access: yes, 2004
A hybrid quantum computing scheme is studied where the hybrid qubit is made of an ion trap qubit serving as the information storage and a solid-state charge qubit serving as the quantum processor, connected by a superconducting cavity.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Statistical ensembles in Hamiltonian formulation of hybrid quantum-classical systems

open access: yes, 2012
General statistical ensembles in the Hamiltonian formulation of hybrid quantum-classical systems are analyzed. It is argued that arbitrary probability densities on the hybrid phase space must be considered as the class of possible physically ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Research Progress on the Influence of Cathode Materials on Thermal Runaway Behavior of Lithium-Ion Batteries

open access: yesBatteries
The structure, chemical composition, thermal stability, and abuse responses of cathode materials are critical to the safety and economy of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).
