Competing Orderings in an Extended Falicov-Kimball Model

open access: yes, 2005
We present a Hartree-Fock study of the Falicov-Kimball model extended by both on-site and non-local hybridization. We examine the interplay between excitonic effects and the charge-density wave (CDW) instability known to exist at zero hybridization.

The origin of human chromosome 2 analyzed by comparative chromosome mapping with a DNA microlibrary [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Fluorescencein situ hybridization (FISH) of microlibraries established from distinct chromosome subregions can test the evolutionary conservation of chromosome bands as well as chromosomal rearrangements that occurred during primate evolution and will ...

Quantum-dot gain without inversion:Effects of dark plasmon-exciton hybridization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We propose an initial-state-dependent quantum-dot gain without population inversion in the vicinity of a resonant metallic nanoparticle. The gain originates from the hybridization of a dark plasmon-exciton and is accompanied by efficient energy transfer ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Slave boson theory of the extended Falicov-Kimball model

open access: yes, 2007
The extended Falicov-Kimball model, with both an on-site hybridization potential and dispersive narrow band, is examined within the saddle-point approximation to the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave boson theory. We first set the hybridization potential to zero

Globalization as Hybridization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Cultural hybridization refers to the mixing of Asian, African, American, European cultures: hybridization is the making of global culture as a global melange. The very process of hybridization shows the difference to be relative and, with a slight shift of perspective, the relationship can also be described in terms of an affirmation of similarity ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Influence of Correlated Hybridization on the Conductance of Molecular Transistors

open access: yes, 2006
We study the spin-1/2 single-channel Anderson impurity model with correlated (occupancy dependent) hybridization for molecular transistors using the numerical renormalization-group method.

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.
