Hydration solids

Nature, 2023
Hygroscopic biological matter in plants, fungi and bacteria make up a large fraction of Earth's biomass1. Although metabolically inert, these water-responsive materials exchange water with the environment and actuate movement2-5 and have inspired technological uses6,7. Despite the variety in chemical composition, hygroscopic biological materials across

The Hydrated Electron

Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2017
Existence of a hydrated electron as a byproduct of water radiolysis was established more than 50 years ago, yet this species continues to attract significant attention due to its role in radiation chemistry, including DNA damage, and because questions persist regarding its detailed structure.

Investigation on early-age hydration, mechanical properties and microstructure of seawater sea sand cement mortar

, 2020
Using seawater for concrete manufacturing promisingly provides significant economical and environmental benefits. In this study, ordinary Portland cement (OPC) hydration in distilled water and seawater and the corresponding evolution of solid phases was ...

Effect of aluminum sulfate on the hydration of Portland cement, tricalcium silicate and tricalcium aluminate

, 2020
Alkali-free accelerator, mainly composed of aluminum sulfate (AS), is a widely used chemical admixture in the sprayed concrete. Thus, the impact of AS on the cement hydration should be further studied.

Hydration in Children

Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 2007
Water supply is a basic public problem. In modern science, three periods with different approaches to define recommended water intake in adults can be distinguished. Pediatricians agree that hydration in children may be optimal only in breastfed infants.

Hydration of polyacids

Biopolymers, 1968
AbstractThe hydration of several polyacids has been investigated with special attention to the effects of neighboring charged groups and hydrophobic groups on the hydration regions. The molar volume change due to the structural change of water by the hydration was obtained by the method of refractivity measurement.

An experimental study on the early-age hydration kinetics of cemented paste backfill

Construction and Building Materials, 2019
Understanding the early-age hydration kinetics of cemented paste backfill (CPB) is necessary for its successful application. In this paper, the early-age hydration heat evolution of CPB was experimentally studied using an isothermal calorimeter ...

Hydration of Macromolecules

Science, 1969
Frozen protein and nucleic acid solutions at -35°C show relatively narrow (100 milligauss) proton nuclear magnetic resonance signals which are assignable to water that is sufficiently mobile to reduce the dipolar broadening normally associated with solids. Hydration was found to be 0.3 to 0.5 gram of water per gram of protein.

The role of admixed graphene oxide in a cement hydration system

Carbon, 2019
Graphene oxide (GO), which has been sucessfully used in cement composites as an admixture, can improve their mechanical and durability properties. This study examined and elucidated the effect of GO on the hydration products of a cement system in detail.
