Hydraulic failure and tree mortality: from correlation to causation
Xylem hydraulic failure has been recognized as a pervasive factor in the triggering of drought-induced tree mortality. However, foundational evidence of the mechanistic link connecting hydraulic failure with living cell damage and tree death has not been identified yet, compromising our ability to predict mortality events.

Catastrophic Hydraulic Failure and Tipping Points in Plants [PDF]
Water inside plants forms a continuous chain from water in soils to the water evaporating from leaf surfaces. Failures in this chain result in reduced transpiration and photosynthesis and these failures are caused by soil drying and/or cavitation-induced xylem embolism.

Recognition of the Typical Distress in Concrete Pavement Based on GPR and 1D-CNN
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) signal recognition depends much on manual feature extraction. However, the complexity of radar detection signals leads to conventional intelligent algorithms lacking sufficient flexibility in concrete pavement detection ...

Failure analysis of excavator hydraulic pump [PDF]
AbstractHydraulic pump failures may be related to hardware or problem in oil. In this study, the excavator hydraulic pump failures were investigated by using visual observed and measuring the part component. The disassembled process of the pump was performed considering the manual part book of the excavator hydraulic pump. The abrasive wear on the pump

37 Years of Forest Monitoring in Switzerland: Drought Effects on Fagus sylvatica
European beech is one of the most important deciduous tree species in natural forest ecosystems in Central Europe. Its dominance is now being questioned by the emerging drought damages due to the increased incidence of severe summer droughts.

Suffusion restraint in gap-graded soil reinforced with fibers
To study how gap-graded soil reinforced with fibers of different types restrains suffusion in embankment dams, the hydraulic response of fiber-reinforced soil (FRS) containing polypropylene fibers (PPF), coir fibers (CF) or basalt-tape fibers (BTF) was ...

The Role of Hydraulic Failure in a Massive Mangrove Die-Off Event
Between late 2015 and early 2016, more than 7,000 ha of mangrove forest died along the coastline of the Gulf of Carpentaria, in northern Australia. This massive die-off was preceded by a strong 2015/2016 El Niño event, resulting in lower precipitation, a
