Programmable Multi‐Axially Aligned Aerogels via Sequential Freeze‐Casting for Tailored Anisotropy and Tunable Mechanics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional single‐gradient freeze‐casting typically produces unidirectional porous architectures with limited transverse connectivity. The Sequential Hybridization by Infiltration and Freeze‐casting Technique (SHIFT) addresses this constraint by integrating secondary aligned structures within a preformed primary scaffold.

Investigation Into the Electrochemical Performance of Micron‐ and Nanosized Tin in Diglyme and Carbonate Electrolytes in Sodium Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This study compares Sn particles of different sizes in NIBs using carbonate‐ and diglyme‐based electrolytes. Diglyme electrolytes enable stable cycling despite large volume changes, while carbonate electrolytes degrade rapidly, especially with nanoparticles.

Sputtering Mechanism of an Unsintered Organic–Inorganic Sputtering Target for Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
An unsintered MAPbI3 sputtering target fabricated via a mechanochemical route enables large‐area vacuum deposition of perovskite absorber layers, while revealing an ion–photon coupled decomposition mechanism that governs target erosion and film composition under RF plasma exposure.

A Compact Hollow Fiber Electrode Assembly Architecture for Continuous Electrochemical Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A coaxial, membrane‐integrated hollow fiber electrode assembly (HFEA) is developed for continuous marine carbon mineralization. By utilizing a sub‐millimeter inter‐electrode gap, the HFEA minimizes Ohmic losses, achieving 50% energy reduction and over 85% DIC removal.

The Progressive Development and Post-failure Behaviour of Deep-seated Landslide Complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The concept of progressive shear surface development remains to be fully understood. This study aims to investigate the mechanisms of progressive shear surface development to failure, and the subsequent post-failure behaviour, of deep-seated landslide ...

Initiation and failure mechanism of base instability of excavations in clay triggered by hydraulic uplift

open access: yes, 2015
Excavations in clay overlying an aquifer may cause catastrophic basal failure due to hydraulic uplift. Although case histories with hydraulic uplift failures are reported worldwide from time to time, the initiation and failure mechanism of the base ...

Modeling the separation of water‐in‐oil emulsions in continuously fed gravity settlers using millifluidic experiments

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Emulsion separation remains a persistent challenge in chemical and process industries due to the metastable nature of dispersed droplets. In gravity separators, the overall separation rate is governed by the formation of a densely packed zone (DPZ) of deforming and coalescing droplets that mediates between the dispersed and continuous phases ...

SigmaFormer: Augmenting transformer encoders with COSMO sigma profiles for pure component property prediction

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Transformer‐based molecular models pretrained on SMILES strings demonstrate strong performance in property prediction. However, these model often lack explicit integration of molecular surface charge distributions that govern intermolecular interactions such as hydrogen bonding and polarity.

A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

A Review of State of the Art for Accelerated Testing in Fluid Power Pitch Systems

open access: yesWind
Failures in hydraulic systems in offshore wind turbines represent an enormous challenge for manufacturers and operators, as the pitch system statistically is one of the subsystems contributing the most to the downtime of the turbines, which is the case ...
