Integrating failure documentation with A3 template to improve product design quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Design quality always has great impact on the competitive attribution of companies. Knowledge Management has become an important process which could help companies to accumulate the knowledge created in the past, and use it to solve the current problem ...

Role of seepage forces on hydraulic fracturing and failure patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The mechanical role of seepage forces on hydraulic fracturing and failure patterns was studied both by the analytical methods of the continuum mechanics and by numerical simulations.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Centrifugal model tests on section form of drainage channel of barrier dams

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
The centrifugal model tests on barrier dams overtopping are carried out based on the grain composition of Tangjiashan landslide dam, and the influence laws on the discharge process, released water and the size of the residual dam section of the drainage ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Numerical study on hydraulic failure characteristics of deep-buried solution-fissured limestone as an inrush prevention layer

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
In tunnel engineering in karst areas, the tunnel mud and water inrush is one of the most common geological disasters. These events significantly impact tunnel construction, safe operation, and the safety of personnel and equipment, particularly in ...

Failure diagnosis and nonlinear observer. Application to a hydraulic process [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Franklin Institute, 2002
This paper deals with the problem of fault detection and isolation for nonlinear systems. The proposed approach is based on nonlinear disturbance decoupling techniques and nonlinear observers. First, we give sufficient conditions and a design procedure for the synthesis of residual generators.

Failure of adhesively bonded metallic T-joints subjected to quasi-static and crash loading

open access: yes, 2022
S.454-463Experimental studies on adhesively bonded metallic joints are presented. The T-joints were mounted in a servo-hydraulic machine and loaded in three different directions (rear, front and side) and at three different loading velocities (0.5 mm/s ...

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...
