Improved Method to Identify Hydraulic Flow Units for Reservoir Characterization

Energy Technology, 2015
AbstractIdentification of hydraulic flow units (HFUs) is an important part of reservoir characterization. Rock samples within a given HFU are expected to have the same mean hydraulic radius. We show that the famous reservoir quality index‐flow zone indicator (RQI/FZI) technique and its recent modifications do not use the concept of mean hydraulic ...

Application of hydraulic flow unit for prediction of flow zone in carbonate reservoir

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2021
The feasibility of oil production in any reservoir depends on the porosity and the permeability of that reservoir. Particularly, the permeability in the reservoir allows the ease of flow of fluid through it. High permeability is always desirable for the successful production of oil in any reservoir. The porosity and permeability depend on the reservoir

Flow-Based Determination of Hydraulic Units

Proceedings of EUROPEC/EAGE Conference and Exhibition, 2007
AbstractIt is common knowledge that the identification of hydraulic units is vital for the construction of reservoir simulation models that preserve dynamically relevant geological features from the underlying geological model. To date, both static-based and flow-based techniques were suggested for assessing hydraulic units. The static-based methods are

A New Approach in Permeability and Hydraulic-Flow-Unit Determination

SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering, 2012
Summary Building an integrated subsurface model is one of the main goals of major oil and gas operators to guide the field-development plans. All field-data acquisitions from seismic, well logging, production, and geomechanical monitoring to enhanced-oil-recovery (EOR) operations can be affected by the accurate details incorporated in ...

Comparative hydraulics of a rectangular cross-flow rearing unit

Aquacultural Engineering, 1987
The cross-flow rearing unit described was designed to provide completely mixed flow reactor (CMFR) behavior in a standard rectangular vessel with little required tank modification. Water is distributed uniformly along one side of the vessel, via a manifold, and is collected in a drain gutter assembly running the length of the opposite side.

Permeability Prediction by Hydraulic Flow Units—Theory and Applications

SPE Formation Evaluation, 1996
SummaryAn improved technique based on the concept of hydraulic flow units or hydraulic units (HU's) is presented to calculate permeability distribution in uncored wells. Graphical probability methods, nonlinear regression, and the Ward's analytical algorithm are presented to perform cluster analysis on core data and identify prevailing HU's in a ...

Permeability Estimation Using Hydraulic Flow Units in Carbonate Reservoirs

Proceedings of Rocky Mountain Oil & Gas Technology Symposium, 2007
Abstract This study focuses on the evaluation of formation permeability for a carbonate reservoir from well logs and core data using the concept of flow units. Characterization of carbonate reservoirs by flow units is a practical way of reservoir zonation. The study represents a petrophysical-based method that uses well loggings and core

Constrained clustering approaches to identify hydraulic flow units in petroleum reservoirs

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract Hydraulic flow units (HFUs) are recognized as volumetric regions that favor the flow of reservoir fluids. Their determination is made possible through correlations between data that are transferred from miscroscale to reservoir scale by upscaling.
