Study on catastrophe mechanism of hydraulic fracturing fracks initiation in radial boreholes

open access: yesGeomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources, 2020
Radial drilling hydraulic fracturing has become a new stimulation method. The hydraulic fracturing effect of radial drilling on site is not ideal, and the stimulation effect of some wells is not obvious. The hydraulic fracturing effect of radial drilling is closely related to the crack initiation position after radial drilling fracturing.

Assembling for Water: The Prefigurative Politics of Land Futures in Argentina

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 57, Issue 6, Page 2213-2240, November 2025.
Abstract As in other areas of Argentina, residents from the Norte Neuquino in the northwestern reaches of Patagonia are concerned about the recent advancements of extractivism onto their territories. Their analysis is clear: the environmental crisis is directly linked to a democratic one, and they engage in a wide range of actions to envision and enact

Estimating the Creation and Removal Date of Fracking Ponds Using Trend Analysis of Landsat Imagery

open access: yes, 2018
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process of introducing liquid at high pressure to create fractures in shale rock formations, thus releasing natural gas.

Quantification of potential macroseismic effects of the induced seismicity that might result from hydraulic fracturing for shale gas exploitation in the UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The furore that has arisen in the UK over induced microseismicity from ‘fracking’ for shale gas development, which has resulted in ground vibrations strong enough to be felt, requires the urgent development of an appropriate regulatory framework.

Devil and angel shifts in collective action: A call for integration and improvements

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, Volume 53, Issue 4, Page 1014-1044, November 2025.
Abstract Devil and Angel Shifts are commonly applied concepts in policy research. Using the two concepts in related but different theoretical frameworks – the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) and the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF) – provokes potential challenges of cross‐theoretical dialogue, the establishment of methodological best practices, and ...

Plastics in dermatology: A review and solutions

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 39, Issue 10, Page 1715-1724, October 2025.
This review explores the environmental and health impacts of plastics, particularly microplastics in dermatological products. It discusses the plastic life cycle, routes of exposure, health risks and provides science‐based recommendations to reduce plastic use in dermatology.

The 2021 Ms 6.0 Luxian (China) Earthquake: Blind Reverse‐Fault Rupture in Deep Sedimentary Formations Likely Induced by Pressure Perturbation From Hydraulic Fracturing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
To resolve the occurrence mechanism of the Luxian earthquake occurred near an active hydraulic fracturing well pad on 15 September 2021, we first use seismic waveforms to invert the focal mechanism solution and centroid depth, and then utilize Sentinel‐1

The future of shale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Master's Project (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2016This project examines the various drivers that led to the U.S. shale oil revolution in order to predict its place in the energy industry going forward and to analyze its effects on Alaska.

Exploring the Effects of Hydraulic Fracturing on the 2019 Mw 5.0 Weiyuan Earthquake in Sichuan, China

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract The seismicity inside the Sichuan Basin in southwest China has been dramatically intensified with the increase of shale gas exploitation recently. On 8 September 2019, an MW 5.0 earthquake struck Weiyuan County in the Sichuan Basin, representing the largest earthquake in the Weiyuan shale gas field.

Tourism and fracking in the northern Drakensberg area: emerging challenges for tourism sustainability

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
The South African government has granted licenses to numerous companies to explore the possibility of the extraction of shale gas through hydraulic fracturing of rock (commonly referred to as fracking) in various potentially gas-rich regions in South ...
