Investigation on hard‐rock breaking performance and auxiliary mechanism of picks assisted with both‐sided high‐pressure water jets

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.

Analysis of Pressure and Tip Stress in Hydraulic Fracture under Unstable Fluid Injection Condition

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2018
To understand the pressure and tip stress change in hydraulic fracture during unstable fluid injection, the calculation model of fluctuating pressure in wellbore under unstable fluid injection condition was established using fluid mechanics theory.

Numerical simulation of interface dip angle on hydraulic fracture propagation path in composite coal rock

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering
For deep coalbed methane (CBM) exploitation, it is very important to control hydraulic fractures in coal seam to avoid the decrease of fracturing energy caused by crossing coal-rock interface.

Slip versus dilation tendency parameter space as a tool for prospecting structurally controlled geothermal systems in greenfield: insights from the greater Ruhr region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study highlights that with the static and time‐dependent evolution of slip versus dilation tendency parameter space, structurally controlled deep geothermal systems can be selected within areas of higher permeability and lower seismic hazard. Abstract Faults play a vital role in the Earth's hydraulic system by facilitating fluid flow when dilating

Failure Mode of the Water-filled Fractures under Hydraulic Pressure in Karst Tunnels

open access: yesOpen Geosciences, 2017
Water-filled fractures continue to grow after the excavation of karst tunnels, and the hydraulic pressure in these fractures changes along with such growth.

Random finite element analysis on ground subsidence caused by tunnel excavation in karst regions with spatial variable soil

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates ground subsidence during tunnel excavation in karst areas, highlighting the combined effects of karst cave proximity, cave size, and soil spatial variability. Findings suggest that shorter cave distances and larger cave sizes increase subsidence variability, and a modified Peck formula is proposed for more accurate subsidence ...

Permeability of granite from a shallow buried mountain pipe gallery tunnel under unloading confining pressure

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Triaxial compression tests under unloading confining pressure conditions were conducted to systematically analyze the permeability behavior of granite retrieved from the different classification surrounding rocks. Abstract The rock mass within mountain tunnels undergoes complex changes in permeability, strength, and deformation during tunneling ...

Numerical study of hydraulic fracturing on single-hole shale under fluid–solid coupling

open access: yesGeomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources
To investigate the hydraulic fracture extension pattern of single-hole shale during hydraulic fracturing under fluid–solid coupling, this paper utilizes seepage–stress–damage coupling software to establish a mechanical model of hydraulic fracture ...

The damage and failure mechanism of prestatically loaded rock during medium‐strain rate cyclic impact loading

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on experimental results and theoretical analysis, an established rock damage accumulation model that comprehensively considers the preapplied static load, impact peak value, impact frequency, and impact times. Abstract To study the rock damage mechanism under high static loading and superimposed medium strain rate cyclic impact loading, a series ...
