Analysis of Pressure and Tip Stress in Hydraulic Fracture under Unstable Fluid Injection Condition

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2018
To understand the pressure and tip stress change in hydraulic fracture during unstable fluid injection, the calculation model of fluctuating pressure in wellbore under unstable fluid injection condition was established using fluid mechanics theory.

Numerical simulation of interface dip angle on hydraulic fracture propagation path in composite coal rock

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering
For deep coalbed methane (CBM) exploitation, it is very important to control hydraulic fractures in coal seam to avoid the decrease of fracturing energy caused by crossing coal-rock interface.

Explicit versus implicit front advancing schemes for the simulation of hydraulic fracture growth [PDF]

open access: yes
The proper computation of the time evolution of the fracture front is the main challenge of three-dimensional (3D) hydraulic fracture growth simulation. We discuss explicit and implicit variants of a hydraulic fracture propagation scheme based on a level

Critical expansion points: Mechanical signs of surrounding rock instability

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study proposes the Rock Bearing‐Expansion Model (RockBEM) with critical expansion points (CEPs) to quantify post‐peak damage stages in deep‐buried rock masses via plane strain compression test (PSCT). CEP hysteresis&interval ratios reveal bearing performance dynamics and failure severity, advancing mechanistic insights into deep underground rock ...

An optimizing microseismic method for rock burst early warning based on mining production process

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A classification early warning method of rock burst based on hourly microseismic data is proposed, which can be combined with the on‐site production process to provide more timely warning. Abstract Microseismic (MS) events have been reported in nearly every coal mining country, which could well lead to rock burst in underground coal mines.

Modelling of a planar hydraulic fracture with three different approaches

open access: yes, 2019
In the talk, we present our recent developments of the modelling of a planar hydraulic fracture in an inhomogeneous reservoir. The hierarchy of models includes the Enhanced Pseudo 3D (EP3D) model [1] coupled with the proppant transport, the Planar 3D ...

Caving‐enhanced geothermal system overwhelms fracturing‐ and pipe‐enhanced geothermal system in heat extraction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that caving‐enhanced geothermal systems (C‐EGS) with adequately fractured reservoirs achieve optimal heat extraction by minimizing preferential flow paths, while conventional fracturing (F‐EGS) and pipe‐based (P‐EGS) systems suffer accelerated thermal drawdown.
