Effects of hydraulic retention time on behavior of start-up submerged membrane bioreactor with prolonged sludge retention time

Desalination, 2006
Abstract High strength synthetic wastewater was treated using submerged ceramic membrane bioreactors (MBRs) at sludge retention time (SRT) of 200 d. It was found that the MBRs could achieve both COD and TOC overall removal efficiency at 96% in all the 3 experimental reactors.

Influence of sludge retention time on membrane bioreactor hydraulic performance

Desalination, 2006
Abstract Three identical Biosep® membrane bioreactors were operated at different sludge retention times of 8, 15 and 40 d in order to treat municipal wastewater. The design of this process is an aerated activated sludge reactor and a submerged microfiltration hollow-fibre membrane.

Optimization of continuous hydrogen fermentation of food waste as a function of solids retention time independent of hydraulic retention time

Process Biochemistry, 2008
Abstract Four anaerobic sequencing batch reactors (ASBRs) were used for hydrogen fermentation and fed with food waste (4.4 ± 0.2% volatile solids (VS) containing 27 g carbohydrate-COD/L). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of solids retention time (SRT) in the range 24–160 h and hydraulic retention time (HRT) in the range 24–42 h ...

Influence of hydraulic retention time on anaerobic digestion of pretreated sludge

Biotechnology Techniques, 1997
Continuous anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge pretreated at low temperatures below 100°C increased methane generation by 30%. pH values of the digestion mixture increased, approximately from 0.3 to 0.55 by pretreatment, although its volatile fatty acids concentration was greater than the control.

Woodchip Denitrification Bioreactors: Impact of Temperature and Hydraulic Retention Time on Nitrate Removal

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2016
Woodchip denitrification bioreactors, a relatively new technology for edge-of-field treatment of subsurface agricultural drainage water, have shown potential for nitrate removal. However, few studies have evaluated the performance of these reactors under varied controlled conditions including initial woodchip age and a range of hydraulic retention ...

Study of bioleaching under different hydraulic retention time for enhancing the dewaterability of digestate

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2015
Dewatering of kitchen waste digestate is a key problem to solve so as to increase the application of kitchen waste after anaerobic digestion. In this study, the effects of bioleaching under different hydraulic retention time (HRT = 2, 2.5, and 3 days) on dewaterability of kitchen waste digestate were evaluated.

Methanosarcina domination in anaerobic sequencing batch reactor at short hydraulic retention time

Bioresource Technology, 2013
The Archaea population of anaerobic sequential batch reactor (ASBR) featuring cycle operations under varying hydraulic retention time (HRT) was evaluated for treating a dilute waste stream. Terminal-Restriction Length Polymorphism and clone libraries for both 16S rRNA gene and mcrA gene were employed to characterize the methanogenic community structure.

The effects of hydraulic retention time on the sludge characteristics and effluent quality in an ASSBR

2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ISCAE), 2016
This study was performed to improve the settling performance of the solids in the activated sludge process without using any of the additives that have been used recently by researchers worldwide to tackle this issue. Four different hydraulic retention times (HRTs) have been studied to find their effects on the solids' settling and treatment efficiency
