Publisher Summary Hydrazonoyl halides have emerged as an important class of intermediates, particularly for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. This chapter discusses the synthesis, properties, and reactions of Hydrazonoyl Halides. The mechanisms of some of the reactions and the structures of some of the products are outlined.

Abstract Reaction of 3-phenyl-2,4-dioxotetrahydrothiazole-5-thiocarboxanilides 3 with hydrazonoyl halides 4 in N,N-dimethylformamide in the presence of potassium hydroxide yielded the thiadiazoline derivatives 7 and 13. The mechanism of formation of the latter products is discussed.

AbstractBis‐hydrazonoyl chloride 1 reacts regioselectively with 3‐mercapto‐1,2,4‐triazole 2a, 2,3‐dihydro‐3‐thioxo‐1,2,4‐triazin‐5(4H)‐one 2b and 2‐mercaptobenzimidazole 2c to give the hitherto unknown annelated 2,3‐bis‐(phenylhydrazono)thiazoles 6a‐c, respectively.
