Psychrotolerant biosurfactant-producing bacteria for hydrocarbon degradation: a mini review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Biosurfactants are a structurally diverse group of surface-active substances synthesised by microorganisms. All biosurfactants have tremendous potential ranging from medicine to environmental applications especially in hydrocarbon remediation.

Azaporphyrinoid‐Based Photo‐ and Electroactive Architectures for Advanced Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐standing collaboration between the Torres and Guldi groups has yielded diverse azaporphyrinoid‐based donor‐acceptor nanohybrids with promising applications in solar energy conversion. This conspectus highlights key molecular platforms and structure‐function relationships that govern light and charge management, supporting the rational design of ...

Influence of Hydrate-Forming Gas Pressure on Equilibrium Pore Water Content in Soils

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Natural gas hydrates (primarily methane hydrates) are considered to be an important and promising unconventional source of hydrocarbons. Most natural gas hydrate accumulations exist in pore space and are associated with reservoir rocks.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

The influence of fuel structure on CO and NOx formation in lean premixed hydrocarbon flames [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A study is made of the influence chemical structure of fuel has upon combustion performance through tracing the generation of carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen in lean, premixed, hydrocarbon-air flames.

One‐Dimensional Materials Supported in Two‐Dimensional Van der Waals Metal–Organic Frameworks with Optical Anisotropy Switching via Twist‐Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

The Impact of Salt Concentration on the Screening of Surfactant Packages for EOR Applications

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering
This study focuses on improving surfactant solubility for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in high‐temperature, high‐salinity reservoirs, addressing challenges in chemical flooding. Surfactant performance is influenced by wettability, contact angle, capillary

Quantification of hydrocarbon leakage and subsurface fluid flow

open access: yes
Hydrocarbon leakage is commonly observed in petroliferous basins around the globe. Despite the widespread evidence of hydrocarbon leakage identified in seismic reflection and well data, the flux of hydrocarbon leakage remains poorly quantified.

2D MOF with Intrinsic Porosity for Colorimetric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An uncommon 2D MOF with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that can be mechanically exfoliated undergoes a distinct and reversible colour change upon exposure to various volatile organic compounds. ABSTRACT In this work, we report an uncommon 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that undergoes a distinct and reversible colour ...
