Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Drugs: Chlorobutanol

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 1967
Abstract A method for chlorobutanol, a widely used antibacterial preservative for aqueous solutions of drugs, was studied collaboratively by 8 laboratories. In the method, chlorobutanol is eluted with carbon disulfide from a Celite column and determined by infrared spectrophotometry and/or gas-liquid chromatography.

Microalgae to Biofuel: Cutting‐Edge Harvesting and Extraction Methods for Sustainable Energy Solution

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The increasing price and demand for fossil fuels are driven by their depletion, greenhouse gas emissions, and industrial air pollution. As a result, the search for renewable alternatives has gained serious attention. Microalgae provide a sustainable alternative for biofuel production, offering high growth rates, significant oil yields and ...

Implementation of Policy Instruments for Chlorinated Solvents: A Comparison of Design Standards, Bans, and Taxes to Phase Out Trichloroethylene [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies the Swedish prohibition of the hazardous solvent Trichloroethylene (TCE). Sweden is alone in completely prohibiting its use. The ban has been at best a partial success and illustrates the dilemmas of policymaking.

A Critical Overview of Common Foodborne Toxicants and Methods for Their Reliable Detection

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food is an essential commodity for human health. However, toxicants such as mycotoxins, heavy metals, acrylamide, and pesticides can be present in food either naturally or through processing, packaging, or some anthropogenic activities. A thorough review of carefully selected studies revealed that climate change and pandemics have led to an ...

Anaerobic Degradation of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Groundwater Aquifers or "Chlorinated Hydrocarbon Degradation"

open access: yes, 1997
Groundwater contamination by chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as tetrachloroethene (PCE) or trichloroethene (TCE), is a major concern throughout the United States. A developing strategy for the remediation of PCE and TCE contaminated aquifers is anaerobic biodegradation.

Pre‐treatment with extraction solvent yields higher recovery: Method optimization for efficient determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in organic‐rich fine‐textured wastes

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, EarlyView.
Abstract Fluid fine tailings (FFT) contain numerous organic compounds, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Growing concerns of PAH toxicity warrants monitoring for environmental consequences and natural attenuation. Conventional Soxhlet extraction yields low (∼50%–60%) recovery of PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene, dibenzofuran ...
