Individual-based genetic analyses support asexual hydrochory dispersal in Zostera noltei. [PDF]
Dispersal beyond the local patch in clonal plants was typically thought to result from sexual reproduction via seed dispersal. However, evidence for the separation, transport by water, and re-establishment of asexual propagules (asexual hydrochory) is ...

Hydrochory and water induced germination enhance invasion of Fraxinus pennsylvanica [PDF]
AbstractIn many Central European countries Fraxinus pennsylvanica is an invasive species that spreads rapidly in floodplain forests. The aim of this study was to analyse anemochorous and hydrochorous dispersal distances and to compare the findings with dispersal data for the native Fraxinus excelsior. A simulation revealed that wind dispersal distances

Astroturf seed traps for studying hydrochory [PDF]
Summary Astroturf mats can effectively trap diaspores dispersed by tidal water. Within four tidal inundations, up to 745 propagules per m2 and between three and eight different species per astroturf mat were trapped. Overall, 15 different species were collected on the astroturf mats, 10 of which were also present in the local vegetation.

Adansonia madagascariensis, a marine hydrochory hypothesis [PDF]
Adansonia madagascariensis fruits were found in May 2011 on the beach of Anjiabe in the north of Madagascar. Marks found on the fruits and the absence of this species on this coast indicated that the fruits had been in the sea for a long time. The viability of seeds contained in these fruits was assessed and compared to the viability of seeds collected

Hydrochory, seed availability and species diversity in riparian landscapes [PDF]
Aim of the present thesis was to analyse hydrochory (dispersal by water), its partial processes and their effects on species diversity in riparian landscapes. Single steps of hydrochorous dispersal (seed transport, deposition, germination and establishment) were regarded for the colonisation of riparian habitats with respect to their function as seed ...

The ability to disperse individuals and seeds among subpopulations is required for the sustainability of plant metapopulations. Understanding the mechanism of seed dispersal is essential for the conservation and restoration of plant diversity.

Secondary Seed Dispersal by Hydrochory During Surface Runoff Inside a Mediterranean Vineyard
ABSTRACT Water circulation within agroecosystems can contribute to the distribution of plant communities by inducing seed dispersal through a process known as hydrochory. As vegetation is currently intensively managed in Mediterranean agroecosystems, relying on seed dispersal to increase vegetation cover and limit soil erosion could ...

Dam-induced disruption of hydrochory and macrophyte recovery in the Brisbane River post-flood
Extreme flood events can scour riverbeds and significantly reduce submerged aquatic macrophyte extent in river systems. In regulated systems, large dams disrupt longitudinal connectivity and may constrain post-flood recovery by limiting hydrochorous ...

Dispersal of Amazonian Trees: Hydrochory in Swartzia polyphylla1
ABSTRACTHydrochory was investigated in the seeds of the Amazonian floodplain tree, Swartzia polyphylla, in which pods open on the tree to release one large seed. Seeds collected from beach drift along the Rio Negro showed a high percentage of floaters (82%). Yet most seeds sank following collection from: adult trees (89%), unflooded ground under adults
