Beneficiation of Kaolins by Hydrocycloning

Materials Science Forum, 2016
Kaolin is a white clay, formed by hydrated aluminum silicates, which has several industrial applications. Since it is associated to impurities and presents considerable contents of contaminant elements that interfere in its performance and in its applications, kaolin must pass through a beneficiation process in order to meet the market's demands.

Hydrocyclone System Design

2021
Once hydrocyclones are designed for given grinding-classification circuits, desliming, dewatering and other purposes, it is necessary to consider all the elements that make up the hydrocyclone system: pulp feeding tank volume and geometry, connecting pipes, pulp distributors and instrumentation.

The leakage mechanisms in the hydrocyclone

Minerals Engineering, 1992
Abstract Some of the shortcomings of the hydrocyclone, with respect to particle classification, are commonly attributed to two flow mechanisms: the short-circuiting flow from the inlet to the vortex finder and the fine particles entrained in the spigot discharge stream. In the present work an additional flow, termed secondary flow, is identified. Its

Dynamic modelling of the hydrocyclone

Minerals Engineering, 2007
Abstract In hydrocyclone separation, fluctuating solids contents and size distributions in the feed cause instationarities. Under these conditions, the stationary concentration equilibrium in the apparatus and the separation are affected. Control mechanisms are demanded for stabilization of the separation effect.

A Cylindrical Hydrocyclone

1992
Hydrocyclones have been evaluated and designed mainly in terms of the “Separation Efficiency” or the “Cyclone Number”. As a result, the hydrocyclone is less effective in thickening.

Particle segregation in hydrocyclones

Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 1996
Hydrocyclones and other dynamic separators are normally fed with pulps consisting of water and solid particles. The solids usually consist of particles of different sizes, shapes and densities. Except in the special case of monocharacteristic particles, the particles are segregated by these differences in size, shape and density.

Hydrocyclone efficiency

2010
The efficiency of a 4 inch hydrocyclone was studied using a suspension of fine silica at pulp. densities of up to 507o solids by weight. The variables manipulated were diameter of the vortex finder, flowrate, percent solids in the feed and cyclone length. Slurry temperature was also measured.

Acoustic monitoring of hydrocyclones

Powder Technology, 2002
This paper considers a case study of using non-intrusive passive acoustic sensors for on-line monitoring of hydrocyclone performance. Acoustic emissions generated within a hydrocyclone treating fine silica slurries were collected using a single 190-kHz piezoelectric sensor mounted externally on the conical section of the hydrocyclone. The investigation
