Following recent observations of large scale correlated motion of chromatin inside the nuclei of live differentiated cells, we present a hydrodynamic theory-the two-fluid model-in which the content of a nucleus is described as a chromatin solution with the nucleoplasm playing the role of the solvent and the chromatin fiber that of a solute. This system

The Gram-negative Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus (BV) is a model bacterial predator that hunts other bacteria and may serve as a living antibiotic. Despite over 50 years since its discovery, it is suggested that BV probably collides into its prey at random. It remains unclear to what degree, if any, BV uses chemical cues to target its prey.

Comparison of Manual versus Semi-Automatic Segmentations of the Stenotic Carotid Artery Bifurcation
Background: The image reconstruction of stenotic carotid bifurcation can be managed by medical practitioners and non-medical investigators with semi-automatic or manual segmentation. The outcome of blood flow simulations may vary because of a single mean

HYDRODYNAMICS OF THE VACUUM [PDF]
Hydrodynamics is the appropriate "effective theory" for describing any fluid medium at sufficiently long length scales. This paper treats the vacuum as such a medium and derives the corresponding hydrodynamic equations. Unlike a normal medium the vacuum has no linear sound-wave regime; disturbances always "propagate" nonlinearly.

We report the experimental observation of multi-bound-soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) in the context of hydrodynamic surface gravity waves. Higher-order N-soliton solutions with N = 2, 3 are studied in detail and shown to be associated with self-focusing in the wave group dynamics and the generation of a steep localized ...

Flagellar synchronization through direct hydrodynamic interactions [PDF]
Flows generated by ensembles of flagella are crucial to development, motility and sensing, but the mechanisms behind this striking coordination remain unclear.

We construct the hydrodynamics of quantum critical points with Lifshitz scaling. There are new dissipative effects allowed by the lack of boost invariance. The formulation is applicable, in general, to any fluid with an explicit breaking of boost symmetry.

A New Thermal Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication Solver Implementation in OpenFOAM
Designing effective thermal management systems within transmission systems requires simulations to consider the contributions from phenomena such as hydrodynamic lubrication regions.

Introduction to hydrodynamics [PDF]
Hydrodynamics has been successful in providing a good description of the bulk dynamics in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. In this brief review, we provide basics of the theory of viscous hydrodynamics. Topics covered include derivation of the 2nd order viscous hydrodynamics from the linear response theory and kinetic theory, viscous ...

The effect of groove texture patterns on piston-ring pack friction [PDF]
A cylinder liner possesses fairly intricate surface requirements due to its complicated functions. It needs to provide adequate surface roughness to resist wear as well as to store and retain lubricants during high temperatures. The liner surface texture
