Design functions for hydrodynamic bearings

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2001
Designing hydrodynamic bearings usually requires a total numerical analysis of the pressure distribution and corresponding design quantities such as the load capacity, load position, oil flowrate, power loss, coefficient of friction and relative power loss.

A Note on the Hydrodynamic Pocket Bearing

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1960
Using relaxation methods, accurate solutions are presented for the hydrodynamic pocket bearing. These are compared with an approximate solution. It is found that the latter gives quite accurate results with a considerable decrease in time and effort.

The Hydrodynamics of a Plug Bearing

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1976
The notion of a “plug” bearing taken up in this work refers to bodies moving within tight circular conduits. Our interest lies in the hydrodynamic film generated in the narrow interspace between body and wall under conditions of an incompressible fluid and unequal boundary pressures.

Optimum design of hydrodynamic journal bearings

Tribology, 1969
This paper presents an automated system for the selection of the length, clearance, and lubricant viscosity which optimize the performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing, under specified values or ranges of load and speed. The study illustrates the feasibility of applying optimal programming techniques for the development of bearing design systems.

Bio-Lubricants for Hydrodynamic Bearings

Journal of Bio- and Tribo-Corrosion, 2020
Various endeavors have been made to diminish rubbing coefficients and wear rates of greases by improving their tribological properties. One of the techniques used to change the properties is by adding nanoparticles to the ointments. The expansion of nanoparticles on economically accessible grease widely constructs the thickness of ointments, in like ...

The Hydrodynamic Pocket Bearing

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1955
Abstract The low power loss of an externally pressurized pocket bearing is accompanied by dependence upon the reliability of the external pressure source. In this new hydrodynamic pocket-bearing design the required flows and pressures are generated by hydrodynamic action within the bearing.

Hydrodynamic Lubrication in a Nanoscale Bearing

Advanced Materials Research, 2009
Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation is used to simulate the hydrodynamics lubrication in the nanoscale bearing. A physical model of the nanascale bearing that the thin liquid water film confined between two solid walls has been set up. The simulation results indicate that the hydrodynamic pressure profiles as the macroscopic state are formed ...
