General Implicit Runge–Kutta Integrators for Multifluid Gas–Dust Aerodynamic Drag

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The integration of aerodynamic drag is a fundamental step in simulating dust dynamics in hydrodynamical simulations. We propose a novel integration scheme, designed to be compatible with Strang splitting techniques, which allows for the straightforward ...

Hydrodynamical Simulations of Nuclear Rings in Barred Galaxies

open access: yes, 2015
Dust lanes, nuclear rings, and nuclear spirals are typical gas structures in the inner region of barred galaxies. Their shapes and properties are linked to the physical parameters of the host galaxy.

Scalability of Hydrodynamic Simulations

open access: yes, 2009
Many hydrodynamic processes can be studied in a way that is scalable over a vastly relevant physical parameter space. We systematically examine this scalability, which has so far only briefly discussed in astrophysical literature. We show how the scalability is limited by various constraints imposed by physical processes and initial conditions.

Kinetic Insights into Precursor‐Assisted Soft Sphere Close Packing Revealed by In Situ GISAXS with Implications for Gas Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The versatile precursor‐assisted soft sphere close packing during slot‐die coating is investigated with in situ X‐ray scattering. The soft crystallization pathways towards a close packing involve multistep structural transitions such as surface nucleation, in‐plane, and out‐of‐plane crystallization.

Merger-tree-based Galaxy Matching: A Comparative Study across Different Resolutions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We introduce a novel halo/galaxy matching technique between two cosmological simulations with different resolutions, which utilizes the positions and masses of halos along their subhalo merger tree. With this tool, we conduct a study of resolution biases

Comparing galaxy formation in semi-analytic models and hydrodynamical simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
It is now possible for hydrodynamical simulations to reproduce a representative galaxy population. Accordingly, it is timely to assess critically some of the assumptions of traditional semi-analytic galaxy formation models.

Dark-matter-deficient galaxies in hydrodynamical simulations [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
Low-mass galaxies are expected to be dark-matter-dominated even within their central regions. Recently, two observations reported two dwarf galaxies in a group environment with very little dark matter in their central regions. We explore the population

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

The GHOSDT Simulations: I. Magnetic Support in Gas-rich Disks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galaxies at redshift z ∼ 1–2 display high star formation rates with elevated cold gas fractions and column densities. Simulating a self-regulated interstellar medium (ISM) in a hydrodynamical, self-consistent context has proven challenging due to strong ...

Robust Field-level Likelihood-free Inference with Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We train graph neural networks to perform field-level likelihood-free inference using galaxy catalogs from state-of-the-art hydrodynamic simulations of the CAMELS project.
