Hydrogels by irradiation of a synthetic heparinoid polyelectrolyte [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Gamma irradiation of aqueous solutions of a synthetic heparinoid polyelectrolyte results in the formation of hydrogels, varying in water content and mechanical strength.

Region‐to‐Region Unidirectional Connection In Vitro Brain Model for Studying Directional Propagation of Neuropathologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.

Dynamic Hydrogels in Breast Tumor Models

open access: yesGels
Fabricating breast tumor models that mimic the natural breast tissue-like microenvironment (normal or cancerous) both physically and bio-metabolically, despite extended research, is still a challenge.

Multiscale Structuring of Hydroxyapatite via Two‐Photon Lithography of Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydroxyapatite scaffolds are of great interest in bone tissue engineering applications, ranging from 3D cell culture to regenerative medicine. Using two‐photon lithography of a transparent nanocomposite, hydroxyapatite microstructures with features ranging from submicron to centimeter‐scale are fabricated. This allows to mimic the natural bone geometry,

Electron-Irradiation Induced Nanocrystallization of Pb(II) in Silica Gels Prepared in High Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2015
In a previous study, structure of silica gels prepared in a high magnetic field was investigated. While a direct application of such anisotropic silica gels is for an optical anisotropic medium possessing chemical resistance, we show here their ...

Dependence of Self-Assembled Peptide Hydrogel Network Structure on Local Fibril Nanostructure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Physically cross-linked, fibrillar hydrogel networks are formed by the self-assembly of β-hairpin peptide molecules with varying degrees of strand asymmetry.

Unusual Swelling Behavior of Hydrogels Modified with Spiropyran as Appendage or Crosslinker

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Not so innocent after all—spiropyran crosslinkers in methylenebisacrylamide‐crosslinked poly(acrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) hydrogels increase crosslinking density, but also, counterintuitively, increase swelling. Charge complexation, cooperative chemo‐mechanical effects, and aggregation may explain these observations.

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.

3D-Printed Hydrogels from Natural Polymers for Biomedical Applications: Conventional Fabrication Methods, Current Developments, Advantages, and Challenges

open access: yesGels
Hydrogels are network polymers with high water-bearing capacity resembling the extracellular matrix. Recently, many studies have focused on synthesizing hydrogels from natural sources as they are biocompatible, biodegradable, and readily available ...
