Allergic Contact Dermatitis with a Fertilizer Containing Hydrogen Cyanamide (Dormex®)

Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology, 2008
Cyanamide is a chemical substance used in the treatment of chronic alcoholism as well in agriculture as a fertilizer. We report the case of a 28-year-old healthy non-atopic man that developed a severe skin eruption after the accidental penetration of a small amount of Dormex (a plant growth regulator containing cyanamide) through the patient's gloves ...

Effects of hydrogen cyanamide on bud break in red raspberry

Scientia Horticulturae, 1988
Abstract The influences of concentrations and time of hydrogen cyanamide treatment on bud break and yield in 5 red raspberry ( Rubus idaeus ) cultivars were examined in a 2-year study. The different responses among cultivars to hydrogen cyanamide treatments are discussed with the aim of making recommendations for horticultural use.

Overcoming rest at different growth stages with hydrogen cyanamide

Scientia Horticulturae, 1992
Abstract Hydrogen cyanamide was effective in overcoming rest in red-osier dogwood ( Cornus sericea L.) at specific growth stages. The concentration of hydrogen cyanamide needed to overcome rest was dependent on the growth stage. From the onset of rest to maximum rest 1.0–2.0 M hydrogen cyanamide favored earlier and larger numbers of bud break ...

Use of hydrogen cyanamide for apple and plum thinning

Plant Growth Regulation, 1992
Effects of various concentrations of Dormex (a.i. 49% hydrogen cyanamide) on fruit thinning of ‘Rome Beauty’ apple (Malus domestica Borkh.), ‘Friar’ and ‘Simka’ plums (Prunus salicina Lindley) were studied. A full bloom application of Dormex at all tested concentrations decreased ‘Rome Beauty’ apple fruit set and yield, and increased fruit weight ...

RESPONSE OF STRAWBERRY PLANTS TO HYDROGEN CYANAMIDE AND POTASSIUM NITRATE APPLICATIONS

Acta Horticulturae, 1998
Several chemical substances, including hydrogen cyanamide and potassium nitrate, have been used on different plants, such as deciduous fruit trees, to break their dormancy and consequently improve the earliness of the crop. In order to study the effects of hydrogen cyanamide and potassium nitrate on dormancy breaking of strawberry plants, four ...

Timing of hydrogen cyanamide application to grapevine buds

2015
One major factor limiting the application of hydrogen cyanamide (H2CN2) is the difficulty in deciding when to apply, since mistiming may lead to bud and crop damage. Since an effective method for monitoring the developmental stage of dormant buds is not yet available, minimizing such a risk involves the regional evaluation of application timing.

An EPR investigation into the reactions of alkaline hydrogen peroxide with cyanamide

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 2, 1998
Free-radical involvement in an alkaline hydrogen peroxide/cyanamide system has been demonstrated using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. A stable free radical is formed which shows coupling to two pairs of equivalent 14N nuclei (a14N1 = 7.30, a14N2 = 2.13 G).

Effect of hydrogen cyanamide on kiwifruit shoot flower number and position

Journal of Horticultural Science, 1993
Kiwifruit cv. Hayward vines were treated with hydrogen cyanamide solutions in two winters. At or near flowering, each node on 100 shoots was examined to ascertain whether it was subtended by a bud scale, a vestigial leaf or a true leaf, and whether there was a flower, aborted flower, developing (non-floral) bud or nothing visible in the axil.
