Three Order Parameters in Quantum XZ Spin-Oscillator Models with Gibbsian Ground States

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2008
Quantum models on the hyper-cubic d-dimensional lattice of spin-1/2 particles interacting with linear oscillators are shown to have three ferromagnetic ground state order parameters.

Noncommutative Coulombic Monopole

open access: yes, 2005
We have constructed the appropriate Hamiltonian of the noncommutative coulombic monopole (i.e. the noncommutative hydrogen atom with a monopole). The energy levels of this system have been calculated, discussed and compared with the noncommutative ...

A Terminal Iridium Oxo Complex with a Triplet Ground State.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2019
Isolation of a terminal iridium oxo complex with an open-shell (S = 1) ground state is reported upon hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) from the respective iridium(II) hydroxide. Electronic structure examinations support large spin delocalization to the oxygen

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Searching for Lorentz Violation in the Ground State of Hydrogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A theoretical analysis is made of experiments in hydrogen and antihydrogen that test CPT. We show that these experiments also provide sensitive tests of Lorentz symmetry for protons and electrons. Both 1S-2S transitions and Zeeman hyperfine splittings in the ground state are examined.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

H4O and other hydrogen-oxygen compounds at giant-planet core pressures

open access: yes, 2012
Water and hydrogen at high pressure make up a substantial fraction of the interiors of giant planets. Using ab initio random structure search methods we investigate the ground-state crystal structures of water, hydrogen, and hydrogen-oxygen compounds. We

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Classical Phase Space Density for the Relativistic Hydrogen Atom

open access: yes, 2005
Quantum mechanics is considered to arise from an underlying classical structure (``hidden variable theory'', ``sub-quantum mechanics''), where quantum fluctuations follow from a physical noise mechanism.
